Nas is on FIRE this year!! His new video for one of the new album's strongest songs is totally mental. Here's the brand new, Rik Cordero-directed video for "Sly Fox":
All about murda murda and kill kill - FOX News and Halliburton that is...
And Nas doesn't stop at pointing out the problems either. The video goes right into the streets and discusses solutions too.
Be sure to check out Mr. Frost's excellent coverage as well:

Video is so dope... I love how they invited Jay Smooth to be in the video too... he's one of the internets best hip hop bloggers.
Fiyah!
I must say that I appreciate a seeming resurgence in conscious efforts on behalf of many artists. Actually, this is nothing new, but with Nas doin it and Killer Mike and Cube recently, I feel like hip hop is so dope right now. I mean, shit is in its revival and I didn't even notice until now. There is A LOT of good music out at this very moment. haha.
Frost...
Rawkkiddoh..
In the words of Pac
Holla if ya hear meh!
Or maybe its because I'm surrounded by you damn Moggers?
Yeah you're right man... theres a REAL effort coming through lately from people who genuinely care about hip hop music. It's really encouraging...
my hatred for fox news knows no limit. get em N!
I second Sam's sentiments... Not so much for what they said about Nas, where they actually sorta had a point, as for the toxin they spew about anything that isn't neoconservative - here's a link to a petition currently hoping to get 500,000 signatures to protest and object to the smear job they've been trying to do to Obama -
Last week, we kicked off a campaign to stop FOX from launching racist and hate-filled smears against Barack and Michelle Obama.
Good news: Over 428,000 people have signed a message protesting FOX. That's unprecedented—thanks for signing! Early next week, our partners at ColorOfChange.org will hold a major event to deliver boxes and boxes of petition signatures to FOX's headquarters.
Other media outlets will be invited to cover this event. If we can deliver half-a-million signatures, this becomes a much more powerful media story. And when that happens, FOX's advertisers will get the hint that it's not a good idea to associate their products with FOX's hate-speech.
Can you help us get to half-a-million signatures by the time of the big delivery next week by forwarding this message to 5 friends today? They can just click here to sign:
https://pol.moveon.org/donate/foxsmears.html?rc=sn The petition reads: "FOX must stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. We intend to hold FOX, its advertisers, and its personalities accountable for FOX's attempts to smear the Obamas."
You can let your friends know that FOX is shameless: In the last several weeks alone, they've "confused" Obama's name with Osama's, referred to Michelle as "Obama's Baby Mama," and called an affectionate fist bump by Barack and Michelle a "terrorist fist jab."1
This morning, Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films launched a short video called "FOX Attacks: Michelle Obama" showing some of the latest FOX smears on the Obama family. You can see it on our petition page. Greenwald's previous videos documenting FOX's smears on Barack Obama and the black community have been seen millions of times on YouTube.2
If we reach half-a-million signatures, we can generate media coverage that sends a message to FOX that their racist and hate-filled smears go over the line—and put the heat on FOX advertisers as well. Can you help us reach that goal by forwarding this email to 5 friends today? They can just click here to sign the petition:
that's awesome waydutch! way to go!
Awesome video. Glad to see we're finally moving away from the cliche rap videos.
It's really about time that someone actually addressed some issues head on. Going back to what Frost said, a lot of times (and this is no diss) you get a snippet of the problems in songs with a middle finger to O'Reilly or an FU to the system. There needs to be more focus on particular illnesses in the society that the artist represents. We can still have our drink and our two-step, but we can't expect to party every day.
terrific video, looking forward to the album and I'm glad that someone with at least a bit of the public's ear is using his influence in the most important of ways.
Scribes4life hit it on the head, the song is fyah, but the flame dies out when the next track/album is about what a great drug dealer I am/was. I'm all for the party joints and conscious joints, because that is just the beauty of life and everynow and them we need to pull back and enjoy what we have; but don't be "conscious" one minute, then talk about how nice you are with a triple beam the next. I hope Nas stays focused on the conservative (read: racist/warmonger) Fox and all that make up that network.
Love the song, the video is just - meh. For those of us who've grown up on MTV, it's full of the most tired cliche's, made even more tired if you have any knowledge of Post Modernism, Video Artists, Fluxus, Nam June Paik, Marshall MacLuhan or what have you. Don't even get me started on the smashing the TV with the sledge hammer (or the computer). Call me simplistic, but isn't that "shooting the messenger".
Yep, Fox is a sorry excuse for news, can't disagree with you there.
I just think of some kid out there who can't afford a computer and their smashing it (same goes for rock bands smashing their instruments).
Don't know what all the hype about the director is though, just typical MTV stylized video fare, as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you so much for sharing. I had no idea that Jay Smooth had his little guest appearance for I read his blog over on the www.illdoctrine.com from time to time.
I'm pumped for Nas' album from all this anticipation.
Further, the tracks I have heard so far has made me anxious to buy the CD NOW.
It's about time hip hop really started fighting back & this is just another step taken by numerous artists previously. Erykah Badu's latest "New Amerykah: 4th World War" released at the end of FEBRUARY has some intense political messages throughout. This is a great song but I agree w/Contra that the vid is pretty mediocre fare.
