Thurston Moore, Mike Watt, Byron Coley On "No More Bush Tour" With 50 Foot Women
-
Artist:
I know - say what?! That was my 1st reaction too. I received a press release today that reads more like a communique from the Discordian front than a tour announcement. The following text describes the "No More Bush Tour 2008" and was attached to a lineup that includes Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Stooges), Jack Rose (Pelt), 50 Foot Women, Axolotl, Valerie Webber and many more...
Five years ago, in a time of woe for the underground, the country and the world, the members of the Ecstatic Yod Collective organized a tour called More Hair Less Bush. Including a variety of musicians and writers, the tour brought the flame of hope to cities cast into darkness by the hideous secretions of the Bush Twins.
Now, in 2008, as we prepare to enjoy the long-promised fruits of regime change, we felt it was time to bring our show on the road again. But this time, rather than offering balm and apologies to the psychically wounded, we would like to celebrate the pre-dawn of a new day -- a day when the word "cheney" is once more an empty phrase we use to terrify youngsters.
This text was accompanied by a photo of Bush which somewhat resembles a photo of Bob Dobbs from the Church of the SubGenius:

Here's the juicy part, the part about the music:
To this end, we have assembled a revolving cast of musicians and writers, all of whom honk the horn of freedom with both hands. We trust it will be a gas.
Trinkets will be available at all shows. Support is being provided by Ecstatic Peace Records & Arthur Magazine.
ARTHUR Magazine! That's wicked, that's a pretty good music rag. Here's the schedule:

The Ecstatic Peace! people have a very interesting website. Quite straightforward, unlike this press release, and features some killer tunes. Check it out:

Is that the same Charles Plymell who published the first edition of ZAP Comix #1 for Robert Crumb?
Allen Ginsberg said Plymell was the first to play Bob Dylan for him, and credited Plymell for inventing the Wichita Vortex.
Sounds like an eclectic tour, it figures that Arthur is supporting it!
Arthur magazine is hard to resist - copies are free while they last on music outlet shelves - with it's dense text and swirling graphics, often going beyond music into subjects ranging from the history of porn (Arthur #25, "Bog Venus vs. Nazi Cock-Ring: Some Thoughts Concerning Pornography" by Alan Moore) to pulp fiction (Arthur #28, how FANTOMAS spawned classics of early cinema and inspired revolutionary art movements).
sadly I will have to miss this one... ah well - it's at a secret location in my city anyway ;) Too bad they didn't plan a stop at the Virgin Music Fest - they'd be in that area...
uncle creepy - i'm really not sure about Plymell here. tho, judging from the rest of the lineup, i wouldn't be too surprised if it were one and the same.
