It's been a long time since I had reason to post about Cannibal Ox, the Harlem duo responsible for 2001's The Cold Vein. That album is in regular rotation at my house to this day and there hasn't been another album in its league since. The 2 Cannibal rappers, Vast Aire and Vordul Mega (do they ever get mistaken for black metal musicians with names like those?) were rumoured to have disbanded in 2003, but hints and allegations of a new CanOx album on Def Jux in 2006 had fans watching in anticipation. That hope was crushed when Vast confirmed that he no longer worked with Def Jux and there would be no new album. Finally, at the beginning of '08, Vast began promoting his new project, Mighty Joseph, and his solo album, both of which feature contributions from Vordul.

It turns out Vordul Mega remained active in the underground and mainstream rap scenes, appearing on albums by Wu-Tang, Aesop Rock, DJ Ese and more. He released a solo album in 2004 called Revolution of Yung Havoks and recently finished recording its follow-up, Megagraphitti.

This week, news broke that Vordul's sophomore solo release will be released on August 19th via Backwoodz Studioz. Megagraphitti features the production talents of El-P, BronBronze Nazareth, Sid Roams, Bond, Ravage as well as features from Vast Aire, Tommy Gunn (Monsta Island Czars), Billy Woods and the Invizzbl Men (Marq Spekt & Karniege).

Vordul says, "Megagraphitti is me trying to capture the last six years of my life on record, show where I've been at and where I am trying to go. I put it all out there and just tried to make the record that is true to me and what I've been through." He still lives and breathes Harlem, his long-time home and the album chronicles his struggles and achievements in the New York underground.

Perhaps the most exciting news, Megagraphitti even includes 2 REUNION tracks by Cannibal Ox!! This is very big news!

Check out #4 "Hattori Hanzo"! Can't wait to hear what he has to say about the mystic sword maker! (After all, CanOx's name refers to the slang for a razor blade...)

I can't wait to hear the entire album, should be incredible. In the meantime, we have the brand new video for the title track:

Every single day I see both the large extent of my Hip Hop knowledge and the exponentially larger chasm of vastly abundant Hip Hop unknown...

I knew about Cannibal Ox, but never really knew much about them.  Just seeing your excitement, I gotta check 'em out: from Can Ox, to the solos, to El Producto & Company Flow... thanks, M
