A whole lot of Nas news just dropped onto the wire in the last few hours. Apparently, the controversial rapper has shocked friends and fans alike by inking a good old fashioned brand partnership with the athletic clothing company Fila. Nas usually steers clear of such endorsement deals, but Fila is product that's close to his heart. Fila's head honchos think Nas is a good representative of their brand too, because he's not interested in "selling out". Billboard just published a report that quotes Nas, describing why Fila is different from other brands:
"My best friend Will and I loved Fila," Nas tells Billboard. "It represented prestige and everything that was cool to us. When Will passed, we buried him in a black Fila sweat suit, so doing a deal with them has a lot of significance for me."
Fila's president even goes so far as to admit that he "doesn't understand" Nas' message with his music right now, but as long as the 16-20 year old demographic think he is a force for postive change, that's all he needs to know... You can read the full story at Billboard.com.

No matter what age group or demographic you fall into, if you love Nas' music, be sure to check out these 2 new songs off his new album. FADER Mag and Prefix are currently streaming "You Can't Stop Us Now" and "Queens Get The Money". Click over if you'd like to listen:

Man, I remember having some Filas back in the day, and my cousin had one of those white Fila sweat suits. I haven't even thought about them in a minute: smart move on their part.
I'm so anxious to hear the album, but I'm worried that all the songs on the net will ruin the experience of the album for me when it drops in (CHEESES) two weeks.
I gotta think it over before checkin the tunes. Thanks Molli!
yeah, i hear that. i've been pleasantly surprised a few times this year, when listening to an album for the first time and realizing most of the songs were brand new to my ears. it's a treat that i had forgotten about in the modern age of music consumption!
i use to love Fila when i was a teen. it was like the ghettofied, "i'm way too cool to wear adidas clothing" look back then. i'd totally rock it again today if i could find any.
Yo Fila - hook a sistah up, i'm ready for clothing endorsements! (LOL, like anyone can see what i'm wearing...) ; )
I don't know if people can see you, but if you get an indorsement tell 'em I'm on for half what they offered you.
will do!
