Missy Elliott To Release Fan-Titled "Fanomenal" Promo Album

Posted about 1 year ago
Remember a while back when Missy Elliott dropped the 3D/2D video for "Ching A Ling/Shake Your Pom Pom," she asked fans to help name her upcoming album? (If not, click here for a refresher.) Well, it turns out that Block Party was one of the names Missy picked from the bunch and that's what she intends to name her follow-up to 2005's Cookbook. But that's not all - Missy also chose a 2nd name, Fanomenal and she'll be releasing a promotional album between now and the release of Block Party (which continues to be delayed). Fans voted online for the title Fanomenal which will include exclusive tracks and videos according to Reuters. It's also reported that Elliott will be hosting a series of block parties around the July 4 and Labor Day weekends. Reuters had an extensive interview with the hip hop queen, of which we have been seeing excerpts on other sites like Billboard and yahoo. We finally get the full story, which discusses her new love of go-go clubs ("I tell you, I've been to a trillion clubs, but none like a go-go club. People are in there dirty dancing. It was hot."), which her song "Shake Your Pom Pom" is based on, and which songs on the forthcoming album are her favorite (there are some deep lyrics involved, not just comedies about sex), her thoughts on the current state of hip hop and much more. First impressions from the clip: Missy sounds rather tame. She may like wild go-go clubs, it doesn't transpire in her "Ching A Ling."

PS: The new lay-out could use a little fine tuning. It's annihilated all my paragraphs and line-breaks

Bartleby - just for the record, it's the 2nd song in that video, "Shake A Pom Pom" that was inspired by go-go (according to Missy's interview).  She didn't necessarily include "Ching A Ling" in that category.

Despite what people have to say about Missy Elliott her music, her videos and her innovation is refreshing to me. The end of this video is cracking me up. She has sampled Doug E Fresh in her video - Ching A Ling. [I CANNOT believe I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS VIDEO] "All The Wat to Heaven" is the song she sampled with the trumpets. Don't forget the originators!

She always seems to be enjoying herself in her videos. My favorite video by her is, "Work It." I love the remix she did Nelly Furtado on "Get Your Freak On" which she performed at the MTV music awards a few years ago.

The concept of the title of her new album reminds me of what, TLC, did in naming their album Fan Mail.

Okay so I am pretty excited although I did not care for her last album. I always hold out hope for my girl!
