New Manu Chao Video Filmed In Liberia Where "Politik Kills", Human Spirit Slowly Recovers

Posted over 3 years ago
Manu Chao's music vids consistently capture a beautiful spirit on film. His brand new video for "Politik Kills" off La Radiolina is a prime example. Self-directed with JS Sauvaire co-directing, it's shot from Chao's perspective as he follows a young fella around Monrovia, Liberia. FADER Mag reports that the kid was a soldier during the civil war that ended only a year ago. As I watched this, I realized he's probably walked that same route a hundred times, touting a rifle rather than a boombox. Looks like the boombox is way more fun to travel with.Manu Chao - Politik Kills (long version)

It's sorta like a chilled out version of Buraka Som Sistema's most recent vid:"Sound Of Kuduro" video on youTManu Chao should tour with Michael Franti this year. They have a similar fire burnin right now, would be crazy to see them combine it.

  1. zolw says Manu Chao seems to be one of the most popular artists in the world of so called "3rd world music". I wonder where the clip was recorded? In which country? And why all these people are so happy?

You're not jokin about the long version... can you imagine fighting in a war at the age of 12 or 13?  You're probably right: the radio can't be as heavy as the gun.  thanks Molli
