Spiritualized Reveal Album Art For "Songs In A&E" + Video For "Soul On Fire"

Posted about 1 year ago
Spiritualized have revealed the cover art for their upcoming LP Songs In A&E. The album will be released on May 26th via Universal/Spaceman. The deluxe CD and double LP versions were designed by Mark Farrow, who's been designing the band's album art since 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space "blister pack." Allegedly, the imagery was inspired by Jason Pierce's near-fatal experience with pneumonia, but I think it's excuse to produce heroin porn. According to Fact Mag:
While in intensive care, Pierce had countless needles connecting his arms to assorted drops; Farrow and his co-designer Stillwell were struck by the beauty of these ultra-functional objects. In an interview with Creative Review, Farrow explains:
"The idea was to elevate them and draw attention to them...They are incredible things...on a completely la-la level I love the fact that [in the phoographs] they look like pinned insects, they take on a beauty when you see them presented in that way..."
It really does look like an insect collection. I really like that about it. The regular CD edition comes with a poster of the needles. There will also be a limited edition green vinyl version exclusively from Rough Trade. Here is the new video for "Soul on Fire":Spiritualized play a string of live shows in UK this month. 3. Augusts1 says Loving the new album, it's a classic. I saw them at Coachella & I have to say it was excrutiatingly dull, dull, dull(And I love them). Jason faced his keyboardist(who was facing him too, not to the audience), wore sunglasses, sat playing his acoustic guitar singing & didn't acknowledge the audience until the end when he got up to take a bow. He did have a 4 piece string ensemble & 3 female backup singers. It was an unplugged performance but just dragged on & on. Some of the songs were great but for the most part it was just painful since I hung in there hoping he'd liven it up eventually. But oh no, not a rocker in the bunch. Grrrrrr! And I've not seen 'em live before.
