Milla Jovovich - An Actress Who Sings Like An Angel

Posted almost 4 years ago

With all this talk recently of the new Scarlett Jo album, I can't help thinking about another gorgeous starlet with an album - Milla Jovovich. Not only did she play an angelic being in "The Fifth Element" but she sings like one too! Milla released The Divine Comedy in 1994, an album influenced by Kate Bush and Dante Alighieri. My favorite track on the album is "Gentleman Who Fell" which you can listen to here. Even though this is a video, I highly recommend listening to it all the way through before watching it. Plug it into big speakers or wear headphones, then press play and turn the screen off. Milla's voice will fill the room as if it has wings. (But watching her lips at the same time can be a bit distracting...)

She's so lovely, isn't she? Let me know if this is your first time hearing her (or not).

  1. yummygatalover says Finally.....(sigh) someone else agrees with me on this record. Everything you've said is perfect....she is an angel isn't she? But i had not had a chance to see video for this and you just made my day.. Don't watch? Turn the screen off? what are you crazy mollifire? But you're right someone seeing this for the first time probably wouldn't hear a damn thing. I wish i had something for you in return. the only suggestion i can make is go listen to the ashtar command post today from the time machine...(.pssst.. rachael yamagata sings on the track)

  2. Celia Chavez says hey, thanks for posting this - this *is* my first time hearing her, and i'm glad you recommended listening before watching. this is actually a very cool song, and made me curious enough about her music to go find her music web site. i also came across this charming little video clip of her singing an old jazz tune (apologies for the vodka ad):

  6. lilja88 says God, she is devastating! I'm normally a bit wary of models-turned-actresses-turned-singers, but this is pure evidence that not all of them are merely in it for show... is there anything Milla Jovovich can't do? I adore the whole gothic-1920's-silent-horror-film-music-video concept! I am completely enraptured...

  9. Groon says Great post. I was actually aware of this album through a friend of mine before I ever knew of Milla as an actress or model or everything she's done since then. The entire album is amazing.

  11. mollifire says i know, right? she's amazing and seems to excel at everything she tries! i'm thrilled y'all are enjoying this post. i too had not seen the video before i went looking for the audio on youTube. i dig the style, she can be so creepy when she wants to! i first heard this song in 1992 or around there. i've loved it since and still have every word memorized to this day... when i was trying to think of something original to post about - something i thought others would truly appreciate - this is the song that immediately came to mind.

  12. Jaguwar says I hear Kate Bush crossed with Cyndi Lauper, maybe? It's also quite unique. I'd heard she was a singer, but I had *no* idea she sounded this good! Reminds me of someone else I saw on MTV or VHS once (I don't watch either enough to know the difference), a "new" artist from Europe, I think I wish I'd written her name down, I haven't seen or heard her since. If ever I come across her again, I'll have to blog about her, I think you'd like her. Anyway, thanks for sharing! I'm very much enjoying! The video's killer, too! *L*

Loved this album when it came out and wondered why she never found the time to release more than three albums in her career so far. Both "The Peopletree Sessions" and "Dream A Little..." are wonderful companions to her first album.

  14. Spike says I like the recording a lot. The video seems to be influenced by an influential avant-garde short film from the 1940s, Meshes of the Afternoon by Maya Deren, uploaded in a post dimitra did almost a year ago. (http://mog.com/dimitra/blog_post/84177#comments)

not sure what happened to my comment here from early May...

it mentioned how HUGE of a Maya Deren fan I am, Spike.  I LOVED Meshes of the Afternoon!  The link is still working and the video too, if anyone wants to check it out...

oh, and Milla's video does look VERY much like Meshes, especially in the stairwell!  Maya Deren was equally beautiful as Milla too.  What a great observation Spike!
