New DCFC Video Was Filmed In Extreme Environments, Watch "I Will Possess Your Heart" (Full Version)

Posted about 1 year ago
When I posted the new video for Death Cab's "I Will Possess Your Heart" last week, I had no idea the amount of work that went into making it. I admit, I hardly watched it (I'm not much of a fan, but I know die-hard DCab fans here who are interested). I found out the video was filmed over 3 weeks, in 10 different cities, with no permits! Billboard published an extensive article today, which DCFC fans must read in full. Here are the 2 parts that grabbed me:
Aaron Stewart-Ahn, who wrote the treatment for the video, was tasked with hitting London, Paris, Frankfurt, Carthage and Tunis in Tunisia, Bangkok, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, Tokyo and Hokkaido in Japan, and New York to film the female subject of the video over the course of three weeks. The final version of the clip shows the young woman, who has not been identified, in near-constant motion as she travels from city to city, riding trains and wandering around markets.
And, as if that's not extreme enough on it's own, Shawn Kim (another videographer/cinematographer) was called in to shoot the band's parts - in a freezer! The Billboard article continues:
Kim filmed the band in the freezer because they expressed an interest in being in an adverse environment and having the ability to see their breath while performing. "We had to keep rotating the band members in and out, because they would get sick otherwise. We even had a medic on set," he says.
wOw! So, yes, definitely read the rest over at Billboard.comThere are 2 versions now, the full 8+ minute version and a shorter version. Here is the full length version, for those that haven't seen it yet:Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart

  1. bagelradio says I had given up on most new music in the mid to late 1990s -- sure there were those classic Radiohead albums, and even that gem of a record by Harvey Danger, but for the most part everything on the radio was grunge-lite and worse and I just couldn't stand it. I retreated into my back catalog. Then a friend turned me on to Death Cab For Cutie's We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes album and soon I found myself at Amoeba Records (on Haight Street in San Francisco) every Tuesday seeking out new releases. DCFC has not disappointed me with any of their releases (that "early tapes" release notwithstanding) since.

  4. Tomozzow says Err... She wanders around the world looking pointless and sheepish. A great artistic statement and a super use of fossil fuels. As for DCFC daring to show us their breath in a freezer, while no one argue that isn't totally "extreme" (as in Extreme Mountain Dew! Extreme Doritos!), it's also true you can see folks in Minnesota doing just that all year at bus stops. Come back when you've got an idea.

  6. Charley Rogulewski says this song has REALLY turned me on to the band. idk why...i liked PLANS but something about this track. the fact that they sing the same thing over and over again for 8 minutes doesn't bother me either. thanks for the info on the video...i wish i was that girl who got to travel around the world in 3 weeks.
