Patti Smith Teaches Patrick Wolf A New Song For Their Future Record Together

Posted about 4 years ago
Patrick Wolf wrote a beautiful blog entry on his myspace this week about his exciting travels and adventures recently. What really caught my attention, was a paragraph near the end about meeting Patti Smith on someone's front porch. A meeting which is leading him into another exciting adventure! Here is an excerpt:
patti smith and I met on the stairs at hurst house, and we ended up playing three songs together on the saturday night, me on the harmonium and viola and patti singing a song called wind and ghandi. and reading a dylan thomas poem which i played along to, which both still are confused about as the poem/song we rehearsed earlier in the day had dissapeared from the book.. we then did the same in the boathouse the next day, and patti has and I will be making some music together very soon. On monday she taught me a melody she wrote about a three legged dog... we have still to work the song out to full completion. Soon we will be recording a little moment for the next album. Im very excited about getting to the end of the three legged dog song though too.
Can you say, WOW!? I absolutely adore chance encounters like this and the magic they maintain for life. Read the full report (which starts off in a car with johnny green behind the wheel!) on Patrick Wolf's myspace blog. It's the April 2 entry...

  2. musikfriend says mollifire, Patti Smith seems to be a bright eclectic person! About two years ago on PBS, she hosted a Detroit Symphony concert which used the Gustav Mahler edition of the Beethoven Ninth. Although Patti was reading her lines, the researcher made a mistake when he wrote that this was the very first performance of any of the Mahler editions of the Beethoven Symphonies. Not so fast! Bruno Walter used the Mahler editions of the Seventh and Ninth while William Steinberg used the Mahler editions of symphonies Seven and Nine plus the Leonore Overture No. 3. Not too many other people used these editions as Mahler literally rewrote the works, doubling the winds and adding extra parts in an effort to project the music more with a larger orchestra in mind. I have Patti Smith hosting that program on video and in spite of this error, it is an experience! Yours truly, musikfriend
