Duffy Have Mercy! New Video From UK's Latest Soul Diva

Posted about 1 year ago
Duffy is the "It" girl in the UK right now and I'm starting to understand why. But if someone told me 5 years ago that the world's finest soul divas of today would all be skinny white girls from England.... I wouldn't have believed it for a second...Nonetheless, here is the new video for Duffy's "Mercy":I bet Winehouse fans won't love Duffy as much and vice versa. What do you think - Winehouse or Duffy? Or Adele? Or Joss Stone?

  1. Augusts1 says I like Duffy alot, especially after I saw an in studio clip Neill posted that showed off her incredible voice live. She's performing at Coachella this year & I'm planning to catch her set! I'm not much of a Winehouse fan, although I do acknowledge she has an amazing voice. I'm just not into her drama or her take on the retro sound. To me it just didn't sound all that innovative but then again, it could've just been her personal shit that turned me off of her.

  2. AA Coppertop says I have a headache right now, and can therefore state with authority that Duff's a tad strident. I prefer Winehouse's growl.

  3. dermahrk says I've watched videos and heard tracks from Winehouse, Duffy and Joss Stone and have to say nothing has really connected. I always bomb out before the track is over. But, you know, I like this track. Maybe there's hope yet....

  4. dermahrk says Hey, *finished* this one! All right! I imagine skinny pretty white girls are easier to market than Aretha these days. 300-pound black women in their 60s do not look good writhing around in videos. It they can still writhe, that is....

  5. Cody B says I like both Amy and Duffy, but my finest would be Bettye LaVette. or Erykah or Alice Russell

  6. runobodyii says If we're sticking to Brits, I'm sticking with Corinne Bailey Rae.

  7. mollifire says erykah is my absolute favorite. she's one of my favorite artists of all time! i wasn't considering her in the same league as these ladies. i don't know why, but erykah strikes me as something different. maybe a more modern day soul, whereas these ladies are going for a retro style. i like corinne bailey rae a lot too, good suggestion runobodyii. but, she is a delicate flower compared to these pipe organs! keep the suggestions coming! i'm loving this thread!

  8. Cody B says Well, as long as you want more,I'd say Alice Smith. She isn't really neo-soul, or retro,or even rock..but she can sing, in any bag, really well. I mean, I have no grudge about folks who are getting all the push and pub, I know they've paid dues and are very talented. The litttle label that handles Alice got her a Grammy nod and got her some TV exposure, but there's no blitz..I wish someone with her talent could make a ripple, but alas, she just doesn't have a gimmick.
