Bjork Shocks Fans With Statements At Concerts, Exit Fest Drops Her

Posted almost 4 years ago
Bjork has always been outspoken about her beliefs and her most recent album directly expresses her political opinions. Throughout her world tour, she has performed "Declare Independence" from Volta and used it as an opportunity to show her solidarity for oppressed people around the globe. However, she recently chose to support oppressed communities while performing in the territory of the oppressors. Two such instances are making headlines today, one with severe consequences.According to BBC News today, Bjork gave a "powerful performance of her song Declare Independence" in Shanghai recently, then followed it by shouting "Tibet! Tibet!" Talk of Tibet is taboo in China and her gesture made many of her fans uncomfortable. It's reported that many left negative comments on forums afterwards about Bjork's performance and outburst. One such comment quoted on BBC News:
"I like Bjork", said one, "it's OK for her to have a different point of view, but for her to do this is disrespectful to fans here - very selfish of her".
Footage of that moment:It is also widely reported that during 2 shows in Japan, Bjork dedicated her performance of "Declare Independence" to Kosovo. This time, it may have cost her a concert in Serbia at the Exit Festival. The organizer of the festival, Bojan Boscovic, denies that the singer was dropped from the concert for political views, but NME has a statement from Bjork's management that claims otherwise. The statement, according to a report on NME.com, reads:
Bojan Boscovic, General Manager of the Exit Festival in Serbia, said in an email to 's representatives, that, quote: ‘We hope Bjork does not relate to Kosovo on other concerts here in Europe, nor in her interviews, because if she does we need to cancel the concert; if this happens, we may as well look for some other artist, or see what is available’.
Not sure why the typo, let's assume it should say Bjork's instead of just 's...Read more:NMEBBCDeclare Independence:

  2. dermahrk says I feel exactly the opposite. If I want political opinions, I'm not going to seek out the wisdom of pop stars. Politics and music are bad bedfellows.
