The Roots Team With TVOTR Members To Record Sounds Of Revolution

Posted about 1 year ago
The idea of The Roots being in the studio with Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe of TV On The Radio, recording songs for revolution, makes me very happy. Especially with Black Thought reportedly on the mic - I loooove Black Thought's voice...According to Okayplayer, The Roots teamed up with Kyp and Tunde to record a song for Soundtrack For A Revolution. According to a description on Louverture Films, the album will feature:
contemporary musicians as they perform new and vibrant renditions of the Civil Rights Movement’s freedom songs - songs originally sung by civil rights protesters in mass meetings, on picket lines, in paddy wagons, and in jail cells throughout the American South. These songs literally provided the soundtrack for a revolution that forever impacted American society.
Soundtrack For A Revolution will serve as the soundtrack for a documentary project organized by Corey Smyth (Blacksmith Corp founder) and produced/directed by Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturman. The film and soundtrack will be released as a CD/DVD package when finished. Okayplayer also reported that The Blind Boys of Alabama and Soulive collabed with Anthony Hamilton to record another song that will be part of the soundtrack.Okayplayer has more info about the civil rights documentary as well as more great news from the Blacksmith camp, including audio for a new Talib Kweli song produced by Kanye West called "Momma Can You Hear Me?" and news of a new concert comp, Blacksmith Live At The Apollo which features Talib Kweli, Jean Grae and Strong Arm Steady...Check it out while its fresh (coz I don't see anyway to link to it directly) on Okayplayer:http://www.okayplayer.com/
