Soul Jazz Records boasts a diverse catalogue of smooth and smokin tunes. From Soho and East Village noise in the '80s to the freshest dubstep riddims, Soul Jazz have their finger on the pulse of the world's most dynamite sounds. I am a huge fan of their Box of Dub series that features all-new original dubstep tracks from the likes of Skream, Benga, Pinch, Kode 9, Burial, King Midas Sound and more. They also have a book called "New York Noise" that focuses on the vibrant scene of artists, musicians, film-makers, photographers, studios, art galleries and more in 70's-80's NYC. In April, the label unleashes a new 12" from Heatwave and Warrior Queen called "Things Change". The song will also feature on an upcoming compilation titled An England Story which showcases the history of UK MC culture with tunes from Roots Manuva, Estelle, London Posse, and my high-school crush - General Levy! According to FACT Mag, Warrior Queen chats about "the political dynamic between Britain and Jamaica" on "Things Change." After hearing her "Poison Dart" with The Bug and Heatwave member Stereotyp's remix of the choon on the Poison Dart single from Ninja Tune, I am truly looking forward to this collaboration. I think this just might be the best year for collecting club music with lyrics as hard-hitting as the drums. And I think Soul Jazz is going to get a lot of my paychecks this Spring! I know they're worthless, but please - take my US dollars and give me wax! Now, which General Levy tune do you suppose they chose for the comp? "Incredible" with MBeat? Is it possible to feature Levy without the trademark tune that still wins him new fans every year? In case you aren't familiar with the greatest lyricist to come out of the Jamaican diaspora in UK, here is the 1994 video for "Incredible" with MBeat and General Levy:http://www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/http://www.myspace.com/thewarriorqueensWarrior Queen and The Bug - "Poison Dart" infoThe Bug ft.
