Buju Banton has been a dancehall deejay in the traditional sense since the tender age of 12 years old. He began toasting under the name Gargamel, the name his record label bears today. Buju released his first choon in 1987, called "The Ruler," and has released countless records since. In '92 he broke Bob Marley's record for the most #1 singles in one year! In 2008 he continues to record and release music, perform live for reggae fans around the globe and run a successful record label. I'm so thrilled that VP Music Group and Penthouse Music (the notorious reggae music labels) will honor this great artist with a 10th Anniversary Edition of his 1985 album Inna Heights CD/DVD.
The original album was released in 1997, his follow up to 'Til Shiloh, and was recorded not long after he first began to explore RasTafari. 'Til Shiloh and Inna Heights reflect his discoveries and have a strong, uplifting conscious message. A message the world still needs to hear in 2008. All Music Guide described the album gloriously in a review:

All Music Guide described the album gloriously in a review:And with Inna Heights he succeeds beyond most people's greatest expectations, capturing the glory of Jamaican music in virtually all its forms, imbuing it with the excitement of the dancehalls, yet ensuring that its cultural underpinnings shine forth...The thoughtful "Hills," the lovely, introspective "Destiny," the optimism and strength of "Close One Yesterday," the infectious prayer "Give I Strength," and the heartfelt appreciation of the "Single Parent" -- everyone is a classic. In fact, virtually every song on this album is phenomenal. The spiritually enriching tunes have been digitally remastered and added to 3 previously unreleased tracks from the same era: "Bad Boy," "Politics Time Again" and "Situations" featuring Morgan Heritage. The deluxe anniversary package also includes a bonus DVD with 40 minutes of live footage from Reggae Sumfest '96 plus Buju's video for "Destiny," a Silvertones cover."Destiny":Buju Banton performing 'Bad Boy' as seen on the Inna Heights 10th Anniversary CD/DVD:http://www.myspace.com/bujubantonhttp://www.gargamelmusic.com/http://www.vprecords.com/Shortly after releasing Inna Heights, Buju recorded 3 songs with punk band Rancid: "Misty Days", "Hooligans" and "Life Won't Wait." That last one of course became the title track of Rancid's 1998 record. I wonder if Buju will be on Rancid's new album that they just began recording?
