New Tricky Album On His Own Brown Punk Record Label

Posted about 1 year ago
Tricky used to be a kingpin of UK electronica, mastering his chops on the mic with Massive Attack and then releasing his own music, starting with Maxinquaye in '95. Now he's got his own label, Brown Punk, which he formed with Chris Blackwell (of Island Records and Bob Marley fame) and an album of fresh tunes on the way. The new album is called Knowle West Boy, named after the Bristol hood he grew up in, and features production collaboration with Switch (Kala's producer). The sounds that are conjured up in my imagination, thinking about Tricky and Switch together, are amazing! This could be a triumphant return for Tricky music! I found out about the new Tricky album from MOJO Mag and FACT Mag...Tricky and PJ Harvey:Tricky - http://www.myspace.com/trickolahttp://www.brownpunk.tv/At the end of October 2007, Tricky spoke with Zane Lowe on Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show. He spoke about Brown Punk, the musicians on the label, his own music and acting roles and such things. Brown Punk archived the interview and you can listen/dl the mp3 right here:Tricky and Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 mp3Article about Brown Punk, Tricky and Chris Blackwell on Music-News.com

  1. BerkeleyBob says I'll have to search this out. Tricky has not been able to reach a wide market and even his fans (I am one) haven't found much excitement in his recent efforts, which aren't all that recent. He still has the potential of doing a massive cross-over, and at one time I thought he was a second Prince...he is that talented. Did like Martina Topley-Bird's solo effort when it came out, maybe he needs a singer to work with. BerkBob

  2. fastnbulbous says Sweet! For the record, Tricky has been using other singers. Most recently, Italian singer Costanza on 2003's Vulnerable, which to my ears hinted at an upswing. He apparently got his meds and head straightened out, and I have high hopes for his new one.
