Toddla T Riddim Gets Remixed And Released - Dancehall/Bassline

Posted about 1 year ago
Toddla T is a household name in some circles, but for many who aren't following what's been happening in the UK underground this year, let me introduce you to one of 2007's hottest producers. One half of the digi duo Small Arms Fiya, his music is similar in style to Florida's South Rakkas Crew: a fusion of bashment and rave elements that are guaranteed to heat up any dancefloor (ok maybe not a honky-tonk, but...) Toddla T first cut his teeth in the studio that produced Dizzee Rascal's "Boy In Da Corner" (Kenwood Studios in Sheffield). At the age of 19 he was producing basslines and beats for such great artists as Roots Manuva, DJ Cash Money, and Steve Edwards. He continued his musical education "via ingesting kegs of dancehall, digi-ragga, chav garage, Detroit, broken beat, Baltimore, fidget and hip hop". Toddla T enjoyed more widespread recognition earlier this summer for his smokin hot riddim "Do Ya Know?" which was voiced by Serocee, Jade Anderson, Trigganom, Mica & Miss Bienek, but is undoubtedly most famous for the Mr. Versatile version. The riddim with Mr. Versatile pon di mic is called "Fill Up Mi Portion" and was a bootilicious club banger all summer.Check out the video for "Fill Up Mi Portion" by Toddla T featuring Mr. Versatile:1965 Records released 2 different 7" singles with 4 different versions of the riddim over the summer and now they are going to press the tune with some remixes on a 12" record. The new release will include 2 originals ("Fill Up Mi Portion" and another, but I can't figure out which one) plus a remix by Sinden & The Count Of Monte Cristal (aka Herve) and a remix by Rob Gordon. All that will be available starting January 28th!FACT Magazine (who Sinden occasionally contributes to) described the Sinden/Monte Cristal remix as "a bumpin' Basement Jaxx-meets-bassline house club banger" which means it's HOT!! I'm going to take a stab and say that the bassline reference means the dancehall beat will be turned into more of a 4x4 tekno-style beat for a really jumpin dancefloor killer! (Then I went to Toddla T's my$pace and listened to it - 4x4 confirmed!)All I can say is I CAN'T WAIT to hear it!! I can't get enuff of Toddla T's music or mixes, so I would be stoked to have another opportunity to score some on vinyl, especially with a Sinden remix. For more juicy details on Toddla T, be sure to read his bios on 1965 Records and FACT Mag.To listen to the Sinden/Monte Cristal remix of the "Do You Know" riddim, plus Toddla T's booty bass bangers, jump over to his my$pace page:http://www.myspace.com/toddlatHis my$pace blog contains links to his free mixtape called GHETTOBLASTER and a free dj mix called THUGS&HUGS. I highly recommend both, they have been working my bassbins and heating up my office during the onslaught of winter!
