Skepta Interview And Excerpts From Greatest Hits Album

Posted about 4 years ago
Skepta, the self-proclaimed King of Grime (Wiley is considered by nearly everyone, including Skepta, to be higher than king status) had a fantastic interview with FACT Magazine that was published today. Skepta is one of grime's longest players, having started off first as a radio dj and a beats producer (at least 5 years ago, can't remember exactly when he started making music) and then trying his skills at MCing. He has since become one of UK's hottest rappers and recently released a bumping new album, Greatest Hits. The album was released on Boy Better Know, the record label that he and his brother JME created, often called BBK for short. "Sweet Mother" by Skepta off Greatest Hits:The interview on FACT Mag discusses the album and Skepta's history in the grime scene. He mentions his opinions of other major players such as Wiley (BIG Ups) Dizzee (Big Inspiration), Ghetto, Frisco and some others. Skepta used to be motivated by bringing grime music to the mainstream and signing to a major, but now that he is earning enough money from releasing his own music those goals might have to be adjusted. See what he says about it in the FACT Mag interview...http://www.myspace.com/skeptaYou can listen to an excerpt of each song on Greatest Hits in this player from 7Digital. If you like what you hear, 7Digital sells the mp3s DRM-free, so just click on the download button for that.
To somewhat back up my statement about Wiley being above king status in grime's royal family, I present this list compiled and hand written by the Eski-boy himself during and interview with one of my fave dj's, Alex Bok Bok:Wiley has labeled himself Master Yoda here, and everyone knows that Yoda is above/outside of the Jedi classification. It would take an absolute genius who is trailblazing his own sound to replace Wiley as top of the list. Wiley invented grime. Anyone making grime music after him can't replace him. Read Wiley's interview with Alex on lower end spasm.
