Pre-Rock n Roll classics get a modern interpretation on the upcoming soundtrack for BioShock, the mercenary Xbox 360 video game from Microsoft. The game itself features period songs from the 40's and 50's, but 2K Games announced today that it will release an exclusive EP with the game that features remixes by Moby and Oscar The Punk. According to a BioShock press release:
“While these classic songs from the 40’s and 50’s evoke a happier time, they take on an eerie aesthetic in BioShock’s decaying art deco-designed underwater city of Rapture,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K Games. “Moby and Oscar The Punk have captured that disparity with these remixes and added a new spin to these indelible classics.”
The three remixed songs on the bonus CD are "Beyond the Sea," "God Bless the Child" and "Wild Little Sisters." The CD will be bundled with the Limited Edition version of the XBox/PC-exclusive game package that will also contain a figurine of one of the underwater world's hulking nemesi known as Big Daddy and a behind-the-scenes DVD. Copies of the CD alone can be obtained as a "pre-sale gift-with-purchase" from Game Crazy stores. You can listen to Moby's rendition of "Wild Little Sisters" if you don't mind using your quicktime player. It's actually quite lovely - a mellow hip hop beat over waves of synthesizer chords that make one feel as if they are adrift with haunting memories:Moby's "Wild Little Sisters" audio streamI guess this is Microsoft's proprietary answer to Apple's DRM-laden music: PC-exclusive music with limited availability. Hopefully Moby and Oscar are savvy web citizens and will post the other remixes on their websites or youTube Channels. I'd love to hear all three songs turned into a score for an underwater art-deco influenced utopia ravaged by civil war and genetically-modified mercenaries. Sounds like music for atmospheric doom if you ask me, and that's my favorite style!Links for the game:http://www.BioShockGame.com/http://www.TheCultofRapture.com/
