Artist: Album: Knowle West Boy Track: Council Estate

It's been 5 years since his last release, but Tricky is preparing to work his downtempo magic on the music scene again, finally! The British producer was a household name in the 90's: he collaborated on the first 2 Massive Attack albums and created the definitive trip-hop album, Maxinquaye. His new LP, Knowle West Boy was largely self-produced, with additional production and mixing by Switch! It was recorded in L.A. and London and will be released in the UK on July 7. (It won't hit the US until September 9th!)

Knowle West Boy Tracklist:

Puppy Toy
Bacative
Joseph
Veronica
Cmon Baby
Council Estate
Past Mistake
Coalition
Cross To Bear
Slow
Baligaga
Far Away
School Gates

"Council Estate" will be the first single and drops June 23rd.

From what I can see and hear from this clips, this may come closer than most of his recent efforts to reaching the deserved popularity of Maxique. Tricky has great potential, and I await his new album with anticipation and joy.

Just a quick reminder to anyone in the Bay Area this weekend who'd like to come out to the Photo Exhibit/Book-signing event for The Reggae Scrapbook. It's tomorrow, Saturday May 10th at 7pm at Babylon Falling Bookstore in SF. It's the 1st time that all 3 authors of the book will be together to discuss it with the public and sign books. In addition, Peter Simon has set up a gorgeous exhibit of his amazing photos - some from the book, many not in the book - and they will be on display for people to view up close and personal. I'd LOVE it if my MOG friends could make it! I'm very excited...

Ed Simons, presumably well over his break up with Lily Allen by now, will play a rare reggae set in London this month. He's the "very special secret guest" that's been hyped for the Lake of the Stars Launch Party. Lake of the Stars is an annual music festival in Malawi and there will be a launch party in London to kick it off. The London party takes place at Unit 7 on Saturday May 24th and proceeds will fund the music festival in Malawi - "the warm heart of Africa" - on October 10th. The London launch party is headlined by Trojan Soundsystem, Justin Martin and is supported with a roster of top notch reggae/dancehall djs and house/techno djs.
