The Tower of Dudes are based in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The band members hail from Canada, UK, and the USA. Being strangers in a strange land they took some music from their home countries and the result is an Eastern Europe version of punky folk. If you thought that a meldodik can't rock, think again. This is a band that has written FUN in large letters all over their songs. Their self-titled mini album drops October 16th. Recommended if you like band... MORE

International recording artist and Berklee College of Music educator Vinx is reaching out to his worldwide fan base to help finance what he calls his "best recording to date"; a 4 volume set of 50 new songs and an online book entitled "50 Memoirs Of A Hip Ole’ Black Man." He is also hoping to add a DVD to the offering as well. Vinx thought of this project as a way to celebrate his "semi-centennial" birthday in December 2007 and now is at a point where the mixing, mast... MORE
So Rick Ross comes out of the closet being a correctional officer. Why is this news? Shouldn't we drop the focus on who is "keeping it real" in Hip-Hop? I mean how does their fabrication of "Drug Lives" benefit us?
Maybe we should focus on other figures on "keeping it real" like Sarah Palin faking her dumb accent:

OCD Automatic is a dj, promoter, and all-time party man from Madison, Wisconsin. You may have heard of his Whitney Houston remix over on BigStereo. He was in New York for a little and played a few gigs, including the one you're about to hear.
Recorded live in a wall-shifting art gallery tucked away in a shady non-descript street in Manhattan, OCD absolutely killed it and got the kids going crazy.
Get transported to Wisconsin n... MORE

"I started out on burgundy
But soon hit the harder stuff,"
sang Bob Dylan in "Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues," and I, not being into alcohol, figured he was describing my progress in music appreciation. Try following me on a similar trajectory here as we navigate a short sequence of three instrumentals. I urge people to comment even if they have time to listen only to part of one cut and hate it.
First, above, is "Kivlemoyane" (2:28) by a Norwegian folk duo and recorded someti... MORE
Why does it all have to be so hard sometimes, why when you think you are just getting one step ahead does the universe decide to put you back in your place... and throw a bagful of crap your way... I know Im no different to any one else, we all have our crosses to bear and have to work at ourselves, being who we want to be, consciously make ourselves roll with the tide... but just sometimes I wonder what it would be like to breeze through life without a care, without the ... hope everyone watched the debates tonight. both of the candidates touched briefly on climate change, though the issue has taken a back seat w/r/t the recent financial meltdown. if only the sort of urgency shown that crisis (if you're scoring at home that's simply the latest in a terribly, terribly long string) were also afforded to solutions for a dangerously warming planet. environmental writer and activist bill mckibben, co-founder of the excellent group 350.org and auth... Deerhoof
Not to be confused with Deerhunter, which I used to do early on, Deerhoof definitely falls into that category of local ‘experimental’ bands. Like most bands in this genre, I usually have one of two reactions - 1) the band is being weird for the sake of being weird or 2) I’m intrigued by the [...]

I'm gonna be straight, I wanted to do a post just so I could use that title because I love wordplay and I'm edgy like dat. So in this quest I came across these old Dinosaur Jr. related Pitchfork and Stereogum stories and these pictures of some awesome Dinosaur Jr. Dunk High space boots from 2006. Sadly they are no longer available. I think more bands should come out with apparel other than shirts and hoodies. Be more inventive. Except for Kevin Barnes from Of Montreal wh... MORE

I've seen the Flatliners my fair share of times. They used to play the venue I managed in College every so often on their tours. The first time I really heard of them and took note was summer 2007. I was on a cross Canada tour with a band called Jen Militia from Kitchener, ON. We were heading west and stopped to play in Fernie, BC. The little ski town has two bars that bring in live bands. We were at the Northern, and just around the corner, on the same night as us, was a... MORE
