WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

what once was is not now and may never be

I am not afraid to tell you that "American Idol" Blake just performed my favorite Maroon 5 song. I have a favorite Maroon 5 song? Yes, and it is "She Will Be Loved." Why? Because that "I don't mind spending every day" part is a little piece of heaven.

There are little pieces of heaven in so many songs and I love loving them. Another example just off the top of my head? The "when you feel like you're alone" part of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts." It's all about sublime melody and trancendent phrasing. You'll be hearing more about my pieces of heaven in the coming weeks.

So Simon Cowell didn't think "She Will Be Loved" was a good call. Perhaps he wanted to hear something more befitting a young man who looks like he's the product of Mike Viola and Todd Foulsham. Fair enough, but I really don't want to hear what Blake does with a Candy Butchers song when I can hear the Candy Butchers themselves (positively rife with pieces of heaven). So can you. I think you're going to like it a lot.

  1. dermahrk says damn! Another nice track by an artist I'm unfamiliar with. Come on, sooner or later you have to post a clinker....
