WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

a little NWW... why not, eh?

This here's a little wave blast from my past - and i have to say that i am not really familiar with anything Nik has done, other than this. This is pure high school memories for me - the fact that it's also a pretty in pink memory also helps with shooting it up high on the nostalgia charts.I think i first heard the Pretty in Pink version - as played by the Danny Hutton Hitters (who i have no clue about), but seeing as i was immersed in high school at the same time - the whole john hughes thing did affect me somewhat. it's crazy to me that there are teenagers going through somewhat the same thing - except without any of the same connections. the breakfast club, pretty in pink, sixteen candles, and even some kind of wonderful are generation defining films. and i'm getting older every day.anyhows, before i start weeping over my keyboard - here's mister nik kershaw doing what he does... straight outta 1984.and this was highschool: "It's getting harderjust keeping life and soul togetherI'm sick of fightingeven though I know I should. The cold is bitingthrough each and every nerve and fibreMy broken spirit is frozen to the core.I don't want to be here no more."

  1. goodmusiconly says Nor have I heard much else Nik has done, but this is major high school nostalgia for me, too. And looking back on it all, it was more cakewalk than the struggle I thought it to be at the time (for me anyway) ... getting older kind of sucks but the perspective certainly comes in handy. Fun to hear this one again, thanks.

  2. Dale says Ah yes, so much nostalgia in this song. I think this got played at most of the dances of my senior year. And my wife's sitting across from me with a big smile, because she loves this song as well. So yay for 80's music!

  4. dermahrk says I am aware of EVERYTHING Nik has done, being a huge fan. And I think the music he is making today is much, much better than this. For a sample, check his page on MOG and you will find a post or two from me about his recent music. Nice to find another Nik fan. Time for the upgrade!
