WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Under Appreciated Songs (Part IV)

Posted over 3 years ago
The Squirrel Nut Zippers, are one of those bands, that as my friend Julie puts it, after an album or two, you pretty much got all you can get from the band. SNZ, for all of you living under a rock, or dare I say it to young be cognizant of such things in the late 90's to know, is a band that makes it home in a 20's, jazz, big band revival.Personally I think they did it rather well, and earned the bit of fame they got, but as of late, i would rather consider them a bit under appreciated. Especially the song Meant To Be, which to this day is one of my favorite "old tyme" love songs. I understand that Katharine Whalen's voice might not be every one's cup of tea, I find there is some great sincerity in her voice. ITs the kind of song that I think I would like to dance with my significant other on a rainy day, when we're stuck in doors with nothing to do but fire up the old itunes jukebox. Play it and Ella Fitzgerald doing Someone to Watch Over Me, and i'm so money.

  1. Spacemunky says I was going to post one thing about SNZ in response but ended up jumping links and found out other things. I guess the band is defunct. Before they disintigrated, Southern Style Nuts bought Squirrel Brand candy co. and all the rights they owned. The band had some handshake agreement to use the name of the candy, but the new owners sued them. People can be such bastards. Two former Zippers can be found at the absolutely hideous maxwellmosher.com, where they appear to be selling a sort of best-of disc of songs they wrote when they were in the band.
