I tend to hate award shows like the Grammy's, Oscar's, Emmy's, etc., etc. I think they are overhyped and ultimately disappointing because more often than not who I think should win and/or will win things like album of the year, best picture or whatever rarely do, and the selection for said awards usually goes to some obscure film or album that a small subset of the population has ever heard of. I mean, I know Alison Krauss and Robert Plant have done tremendous work and they aren't as obscure as the bands/films I was talking about, but really this is a popularity contest and I believe the results were skewed. But that is neither here nor there...
I decided to watch this year's Grammy awards because I thought the line-up of performers was top notch and would be more entertaining than years past, and thankfully I wasn't disappointed. Aside from U2 and Paul McCartney, I thought all of the performances were great. And no offense to U2 and Sir Paul, I just thought they were subpar. The Swagger boys were on point (and could have done just fine without a very pregnant M.I.A., who was lip synching way more than anyone else), Radiohead killed it with the USC Marching Band, the Four Tops tribute was great and the J.T./T.I. performance was tight. But what caught my ears more than anything was........*deep breath*......Sugarland's performance of "Stay".
I don't know what it was about it. For some reason that song was just powerful to me. Jennifer Nettles has some serious pipes and she held nothing back in that performance. I am not, by and large, a country music fan but I instantly became a Sugarland fan after that performance. I actually felt bad for Adele, who also performed beautifully, because she had to follow that performance with one of her own.
I have yet to find a quality version of that performance on YouTube or anywhere else, but if you get the chance I highly recommend checking it out (if you do find it).

I'm not huge on country music, but have a lot of friends that are ... and they all LOVE Sugarland. I wish I saw the performance; it must've been phenominal! :)
the one performance that I thought was great was Radiohead, I missed this one
I am just like you, I never watch awards shows. I'm afraid that this year's Grammy's were no exception. If I find out about an interesting performance in an award show, I just go and watch it at youtube afterwards.
