MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

When I wake up with the blues, I can only turn to the greats for solace. A few years ago, the legendary Buddy Guy got divorced, and then put out an album of slow, sad blues songs, which had never been his style. Buddy has always been more of the smoking, leave 'em dead and gasping, kind of blues guitarist.

And, a snappy dresser, as I think you will agree.

The album contained some stellar guests singing essential soul standards. Let me tell you, if you don't appreciate the sentiments of "Ain't No Sunshine" you must be stone, cold dead. Nobody cried on wax like Bill, and I must say, Buddy did him justice with a fine tribute.

Here's some more clips of Buddy featuring another great smoking guitarist, Carlos Santana, and also John Mayer, who did a series of shows with Buddy that were also stellar. Look 'em up on YouTube, you won't be disappointed.

Cry with me, my MOG family. My Wolfpack finally got it together, and they lost by one point. One. . . point. Lord, it's a sad morning in Raleigh.

Good call Michelle. This is so choice. I enjoy the smoldering passion in the guitar here. Buddy's still burnin' it, but its a slow burn soul crying. The vids are fine, but that posted track rules.

Buddy Guy is a legend, truly. I'm just happy I got the chance to see him live, and it was just thrilling. He's got a great voice, and he can sure play that guitar. One of the best.

Sounds great. I think he's a snappy dresser sometimes. The video, with him in an old-man-fishing-hat, is less than sartorially overwhelming. Still, he looks better than Carlos in his no-I'm-not-bald-I'm-The-Edge headgear.

Nice to see you back to posting on a regular basis, I miss a lot of the old faces around here.

I am totally puzzled as to how you have not been my trusted for all this time. Must be a mistake. Anyhow, nice picks.

dermahrk: oh LOL. it's hard to be sarcastic on the internets. I was hoping someone might comment on the shirt, which looks like it was made out of a bedsheet, a la George Clinton. I once saw the P-Funk god play in Lion King bedsheets. No one does it better, baby. but that Santana comment is bringing tears to my eyes. :)

SA, dm: you know it.

Oatmeal: no worries, it's all good, and since you feel my pain, much love back at ya. You know, I'm thrilled for Coach Mike - I really am, I stood up and cheered for the guy, it was cool to be a part of basketball history and he deserves all the credit and praise in the world. But from now until K hits 900, my main man Ben McCauley gets to be a part of his highlights, crouched on our court with his head in his hands, in pure agony at that missed buzzer beater. In the words of Forest Whitaker from Platoon, "I'm feeling real bad inside, my brothers." I've seen the friggin highlights on ESPN twenty times already, and it hurts worse every. single. time. Ah me.

Hammer: nice add, thanks.

The blues from one's team's defeat is not uncommon. What is unexpected was this cover by Buddy. Not only Buddy is a dapper gentleman but it takes tremendous talents to get away with a polka dot Statocaster...

The next time you feel under the weather, Michelle, please do not hesitate to post some more Buddy. Many thanks in advance (not that I particularly wish you to be bluesy ;)

I won free tix to see Buddy w/Los Lobos 3-4 yrs ago through my local radio station & I was mainly going to see Los Lobos who I've enjoyed over the years. LL opened for Buddy & they were amazing, of course, but I was blown away by Mr. Guy. He was quite the entertainer & was out in the audience wandering around w/his remote guitar & having people sing with him. He was quite the character & so incredible on that axe. So glad I got to see him.

The posted song is a blast. I actually like it more than the original. So, another album to take a closer look at. Thanks for posting, Michelle.
