WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Tack's Twelve Days of Christmas, Number One

Posted about 1 year ago
Just 'cause . . .When I was a music buyer, back before everyone had little wires sticking out of their ears and talked to themselves in public, I looked forward to the holiday season with a mixture of excitement and dread. Dread for the coming of the lines, the lost souls who only ventured into record stores once a year armed with lists of dead-on music descriptions like "the Bon Jovi record with the blue cover, New Kids Edition, and some piano Christmas thing by a steamroller? You got those, of course," the endless stocking of elevator music and four thousand cds with the same title (Christmas Favorites). . . but then there was always the new holiday music. Every year, something fabulous to buy. I have lots of beautiful holiday music, I can't resist getting more of it every year. I try to stay away from the same old same old, unless it is a major kick-ass version. Believe it or not, Miss Loreena does some major ass-kicking on this rendition of the wassail, "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen." Which puts the joy right in my stocking, I gotta say. Enjoy.

  1. Groon says I've never cared for holiday music, as a rule. I think it's the idea of taking the same old things and trying to wrap them up in a new package, while really changing nothing. That being said, though, there are times when something very cool comes along and makes me really listen. I think I might classify this as one of those moments. Very, very cool.

  2. mktackabery says I can definitely understand those sentiments G. I mean, how many friggin' chestnuts do we have to roast? Especially when so many of them are the exact same thing every year. No good at all! Unique only!

  3. Groon says I don't know how often you check out new posts, but I just posted a Christmas song as well, inspired by this one.

  7. Sam The Artist says aw man i hate that. when artist A covers a christmas song that artist B did last year and it sounds exactly the same. and it never feels like they wanted to do it, like they were expected to sing it the way they did. idk. i wanna hear different renditions, not the same angelic voice over and over. THIS is what i wanna hear this time of year. good tunskis.

  8. Wahiawa786 says OK, you asked for it. Look up "Willie K" and "The Little Drummer Boy/Ring Your Christmas Bells" for an-ever-so-slightly-different-version. (That's "William Kahaiali'i" to the uninitiated.)
