WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Jimi Hendrix - Astroman Jam and cartoons

Posted 11 months ago

As my own therapy dictates, I have to listen to Jimi Hendrix every day. I love the 3 piece band for hard driving rock n roll. With Jimi it's easy to do because every song whether live or studio, is a unique experience. Jimi always considered songs as having parts(obviously), and the songs always starts out "straight", but after a while(I don't know music form terms very well), like after the first turn around, it's time for an improvisation, or solo. Starting in late summer 1968, Jimi was stretching out more in concert. The songs were getting longer n longer to everybody's delight.

During these improvisational times where Jimi was playing off of imagination, feeling the blues licks he'd learned for over the years, he would invariably hit on some of the most infectious melodies ever heard. You have to be listening and you have to have a lot of Jimi on hand to keep noticing those special segments that are in so many of his songs.

Here is an example of one such section. He is playing a song, Astro Man, that is an instrumental that is supposed to invoke the feeling of FLYING like Superman. It is a known fact that Jimi enjoyed Science Fiction and cartoons (and movies and beer, like everybody else). See if you can feel yourself flying when listening to this piece(one of many such examples) of his artistic genius.

Yes Jimi was about jamming and improvisation but his ultimate goal was to take the listener on a journey and that he has done for me many times It's funny I can listen to the same track 10 times and I always hear something I never heard before
