Alice In Chains Ft. Lauderdale Concert Review

Posted over 5 years ago
I know this is a couple of days late but after getting home at 3:30am then working at 8:30am, I was a little shot yesterday. But it was all worth it.First I want to say that "Alice In Chains":www.aliceinchains.com is probably my favorite all time band. I have a lot of favorite bands but they are my all time favorite. I had already heard from my cousin in Seattle that "William DuVall":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_DuVall did a great job and the rest of the band was excellent. AIC had also said that this was going to be a tribute to Layne and the music they created while he was alive. They definitely pulled it off. DuVall hit the songs perfectly. He didn’t stray from Layne’s style. He truly delivered every song like he was a fan of Layne’s and wanted to give props to Layne. As Dozen Black Roses commented on my post earlier, you could actually close your eyes and feel Layne’s presence. I think Layne is probably looking down giving a \m/ from above. The show was great. I don’t know the exact playlist but they played all the favorites. The band was excellent and flawless as only you would expect. Jerry sang and played great. Inez delivered and Sean Kinney was truly amazing to watch. Kinney makes it look so easy and graceful. He just flows when he plays. They played a little snippet of Mountain Song which was really cool. Their encore included Rooster and Would which was a solid close to a solid show.According to my buddy who liked them so much the night before in Orlando that he drove down to Ft. Lauderdale to see them again, the show in Orlando included a tribute to Layne and an acoustic set. Our show did not include these but that was probably partly due to the show being outside and it was a much smaller, tighter venue. It had been raining very hard earlier in the day which almost caused the show to be cancelled had it not quit. The highlight of the show that was not music related was when the guy next to me that was continually creeping in on my space or trying to get his girlfriend to take my space (you know the guy) got his butt thrown out by a very, very large bouncer. I would definitely travel to see them again. If you have a chance to catch the show do it. It will be worth the money. Also "the Revolution":www.jointherevolution.net is a great place to see a show.RIP "Layne Staley":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layne_Staley

  1. Dozen Black Roses says lol...I know my husband would have loved to see that, he had to be his own bouncer. I dont know what it was..think he was at the bend of the bar upstairs, but he kept getting jostled. I was thankful to have slightly more space. I need to be able to dance at concerts, and I could do it as long as I didnt move around too much ~chuckles~. The funny part of the night was watching this girl next to me. There was a group of guys there hanging out and she tried to push past them. They told her look you're not going to see any better in front of us, and she was obviously tipsy and was loud "oh my god" grabbing on to me " can you belive how rude they are??". Then she dissapears and reappears several time, each time getting progressively more attached to the guy next to me. In the beginning hes pushing her off, but then as the night progressed, he let her do her thing. ~shakes head~ Definitely different seeing a concert these days, with the change of perspective as an "older" adult. Lord knows what happened with those two after. Musically, I have to agree with you totally. It was a complete AIC tribute, and William Duvall did a great job. So in a way it was good I had no line of sight, as I could just close my eyes and do a little time travel. All the songs I wanted to hear were covered, although we did leave a little early, so I missed the end. :( Everyone in the audience around me fully enjoyed it, and I am glad that they were able to make a stop in south florida, we miss sooooo many shows as bands dont want to travel down the peninsula for one show, and then have to travel the same way back. If your an AIC fan, definitely go see this show if you can get tickets. There's always someone scalping some, so even if its sold out, its worthwhile to give it a try. As for the venue, it was nice, but definitely oversold. I know from other shows there, its not usually that bad. Not sure what happened with this one, why it got so overcapacity. Alright, back to the weekend chore grind, listening to Facelift as we speak.

  4. mitchyd says Well I found out why the show didn't have the accoustic set and the memorial. Evidently the club didn't give them enough time to set up and on top of it didn't allow the band to do a sound check. This of course pissed off the band and they were very upset they couldn't do the memorial. And the nail in the coffin for me is evidently after the show William and Jerry went next door to the bar that I had a Guiness in before the show and had some beers. Man did I miss out. Oh well. It was still a great show and I'm happy.

  5. RGM says Thanks for the review, glad AIC is doing this. It's kinda cool living in WA There's a cool vibe here. I live out in the boondoks just outside of Aberdeen, but there are a lot of musicians here, and it's a lot diffrent feel from L.A. musically.

  6. kat3260 says I'm glad loyal fans are pleased with William's performance. I never got to see them while Layne was alive, sadly. So, my first AiC show is on 10/25 in Washington, DC. From the reviews I've read, I expect it to be a great night. Seems like everyone has been relatively pleased. The setlist from Orlando blew my mind . I had made a tentative list of songs I'd want to hear, and I was shocked to see that most of them were played that night. It sucks that you didn't get the acoustic set! That is probably what I'm looking forward to the most.

  7. mitchyd says My buddy who saw both of them said the acoustic set just added another element and the memorial was really cool as a fan. I would have liked to have seen the acoustic set but had I not known about it I wouldn't have felt like I was missing anything.
