... as I mourn the dissolution of one of my favorite bands among the last decade, The Blood Brothers.

It's official, kids - they band's done gone KAPUT. Perhaps after 10 years together, things had run their natural course -- or maybe, just maybe, all that Neon Blonde/Jaguar Love isn't just 'side project' material anymore ... and good goddamn, is that Jaguar Love stuff amazing.

Either way, I'm sad. The Blood Brothers tore up venues with fast-paced high-energy shows, and the records are damn good too (and with more recent material, even near-danceable in a frantic, screaming sort of way).

A few years ago, a co-writer (at the time) at Delusions of Adequacy named Eddie scribed a review of Burn, Piano Island, Burn; based on that review, an e-mail volley with Eddie and the recommendation of another DOA writer named Jeff, I went scampering to download one specific song ... And that song hacked at my ears like a freshly sharpened hatched, though I couldn't turn away and stop listening. Over and over and over I clicked my mouse to play the track again and again and again ... There's some harsh sense of melody here somewhere, but for the most part, this tune is just sledgehammers pounding keys/bass/guitars and drums while bulldozers bash brick walls and roll deliberately over the wreckage, slowing only for the bulldozer drivers to wail like banshees on Red Bull.

This, my friends, is "Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon" ...
