Dan Fogelberg Was Not Who We thought he Was... Bluegrass? really? huh?

Posted almost 3 years ago

I've never been a big Fogelberg fan. His music, after falling off of the pop charts seemed to wiggle into elevator music and that annoying music you get when you are on hold forever because you need to talk to customer service.... His hits went on to become huge in MUZAK playlists, but not my playlists. Snooze snooze snooze I say.

I moved to Peoria a couple of years ago and heard he was from here, and I was like ho-hum, no big deal. Then he died, and again I was like ho-hum ok. Sorry to hear that Dan, but never a big fan here anyways. But now, they are thinking about closing his high school. I'm not sure why that stopped me in my tracks. Not sure why that bothers me more than the death of the musician himself. I guess the dying of a high school, due to the fact of budget cuts, low enrollment, plus it now resides in a ghetto neighborhood, just seems to sad for words. I came to the realization that famous musicians come out of everywhere and no where... often the poorest neighborhoods. Yet they offer up to all of us the richest sounds.

So say a small prayer for Woodruff HighSchool in Peoria Illinois. Who knows who could come out of it next.

Tis a fine looking High School.  They should preserve it or use it for something else if they're not going to keep it as a school.  So many uses for something like that.  Ok this is not the Dan Folgelberg I knew.  This sounds weird with his name attached to it.  I was a little "aw" when he died.  I'm not a believer but I'd like to think Jesus was all "hey man, thanks for the song".

I like a few of Dan's songs, but own none. I never knew that he did any material bluegrass-style, and really enjoyed this. Thanks, Miss Junk and welcome back. Where ya been?

Dan Fogelberg was one of the biggest and best at what he did. He was cutting edge and vey non mainstream with tunes like "Face the Fire" anti- Nuke and also a environmentalist long before it became trendy! He was a mellow very likeable guy who sang ,composed some of the most beautiful songs in music history as his career went back to the early 70's. He is very sadly missed by millons of fans like myself.R.I.P. He was in the southern california folk rock genre like kenny Loggins,America, the eagles,Linda Ronstant and his first album and second were the most acclaimed and stellar.

Absolutely agree with DenRA. If you listen to any of Dan's early albumns, say the 1st 6 or so, you will find some beautiful work. Heartwrenching ballads, beautiful harmonies wonderful musicianship. When he died, it felt it as a great loss to the soft rock/folk rock community. His Radio fare was not his best stuff. Listen to his deep tracks and you will see. Start with these albums:

    Home Free

    Souvenirs

    Captured Angel

Great to have you back MISSJUNK!!
