tell me do you miss me

I am back with a vengeance. I have had this documentary for awhile and been meaning to post about it, but sadly life took over and I had to neglect mog. I will admit I do miss Luna, an amazing band that never got the success that they deserved. All of you Galaxie 500 fans that discovered them from the love of Dean Wareham know what I am talking about. I found them from a different route that I am not sharing with you, but nevertheless I appreciate. Now Luna went through a few lineup changes, but Dean and Sean Eden (who is now playing with Elk City among others) stayed the same and kept the sound going. The film captures the beauty of Luna as well as the bittersweet farewell that was their last tour. You will see the monotony that we all know is life on the road and the path that relationships take when you spend ten years with someone in a van. You might see more than you are used to in tour documentaries because Matthew Buzzell, the filmmaker, was able to capitalize on his friendship with the band to have true access (there is a hidden gem that shows the love). Regardless of your thoughts about the band, it is a wonderful fim, a true lovesong to a band that I miss.PS- You can watch the trailer here http://www.fuzzywuzzy.com/movie/index.html

  1. ooeh says Thanks for the tip about the doc. I love Luna! (And Galaxie 500!) On a tangentail note, did Britta Phillips really sing the Gem theme song? (I want to find out for sure.) And on a super vaguely related note: there's a local Montreal band called Galaxie 500 - they have absolutely nothing to do with Dean Wareham, and at first I was a bit miffed at the name rip-off.. but they're actually pretty rockin in a less VU, more garage rock/French way (listen to La Fièvre over here: http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=18875 ). Anyway, the name belonged to a car before Dean, Damon & Naomi. Props to everyone who choses such a cool name.

  2. miss lila d says yes, Britta did sing the Gem theme song. Also she used to be part of this band from Atlanta called Babyfat. Thanks for the link to G500. I will give them a listen. I love the Quebecois.

  3. Rinserepeat says Mmm...This documentary sounds great! I love the idea of a more candid film due to the nature of their relationship. I'll definitely have to seek this out soon...
