WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

I'm back!!

Here's a quick review of the concert, I wanted to have it more detailed, but I got a bit lazy lol:I was in Paris with my family for a holiday, but I extended my holiday to see Olivia, so I was alone on Thurs and Fri. Luckily, a member of another forum I visit was also going to the concert so I met up with her and her friend. It was great to meet someone else who is into jpop and they were both really cool!Anyway on the Friday I was making my way back from Japan Expo (unfortunately I missed Olivia!) to the hotel (which is in the same area as La Loco). I could see that a queue was already beginning when I arrived back, which was around 6 I think. So I asked someone in the queue if it was for Olivia, even though I wasn't sure if they could speak English and my French isn't that great! But I pointed to my cool Olivia t-shirt I got at the Expo and told me it was the queue. YAY I get to queue! For me that was part of the fun of the concert lol. So I had to go back to the hotel and get a book and food for the queue, so I'm all prepared!Got to the queue, and it was cool to be sitting with loads of other Olivia fans, but I was too shy to say anything. I did ask the girl next to me in the queue to keep my space whilst I went to the bin, and when I got back she started talking to me! I ended my attempting to talk to them in French lol - luckily they spoke far better English than I did French, and I had my phrasebook to hand, so I tried my best lol. I doubt they come to these forums, but their names were Sia (I think) and Sophie and they were lovely! It was really nice of them to talkt to me, even though my French was minimal. We got talking about which jpop artists we like and Sophie lent me her hat, which was nice of her (I'm a redhead so I was suffering frmo sunburn lol!) At one point, whilst I was waiting in the queue, a fight almost kicked off with one of the Moulin Rouge bouncers and some guy, who seemed to be intent on winding everyone up. Saw him shouting at a policeman as well- no idea what about though. Certainly made the wait in the queue more interesting!Soon the girl I'd me on another forum and her mate turned up, so I got talking to them again, and the waiting time didn't seem long at all. It totally flew by - I had a lot of fun talking to everyone! I attempted to tell Sia and Sophie that I was "pleased to meet them" in French before we went in and said "Merci beaucoup" (sp?) to Sophie for the hat. I started to get excited about the concert when someone started singing a bit of Wish - got me all hyped! When we got in, we discovered that everyone with printed out tickets had to wait in a seperate queue and weren't going to get in immediately. One of the bouncers was trying to tell us something at one point, but I don't think a lot of the people in the queue understood. We then had to go back inside. At first I was totally miffed cause I thought we'd miss the good spaces - I'm not sure what the problem was, think maybe the barcode scanner wasn't working? Anyway it worked out because, I started talking - briefly - to 3 girls from Newcastle, bringing the total amount of UKers to.....6! Which was 4 more than I expected lol. When we got in the place was packed out yet, and we got a good spot on the stairs. At first I was surprised by the amount of people there, but the place soon filled out. Most people probably had the sense not to bother to come until 8:30.Soon we got see band members checking the instruments and everyone started screaming. I was wondering if there would be any support or not when some music started playing and Olivia came out and everyone started screaming again! The setlist, or rather what I can remember of it, is:Stars Shining OutSpiderspinsCelestial DelinquentUnder Your WavesStarless NightRecorded ButterfliesWinter SleepReal Love? (Hadn't heard the song after Real Love before)If You Only KnewCut Me FreeWishA Little PainBlind UnicornThe order if that isn't right and I've probably missed something, but I'm surprised I remembered that much!I was really happy when she sang Stars Shining Out as that was one of her songs I really wanted to hear live, plus it's fun to sing along too. Spiderspins was a lot of fun too! I always love the way she sings on Celestial Delinquent so I enjoyed singing to that too! When it came to Recorded Butterflies she started to sing Starless Night over it. I did wonder why I started singing the "wrong" song lol. I really enjoyed Real Love and can't wait to hear the studio version! And we kinda got to hear it twice as she had to restart the song because of some problems. She was twirling her way through a lot of the songs and at one point she stumbled and I thought she was going to fall off the stage!Cut Me Free was one of the songs which sounded the best live. I also liked the way Olivia hyped up the songs and kept you guessing what she was gonna perform next. Especially when she started introducing Wish, I was thinking "OMG, it's Wish!" I was surprised when she came out for the encore and did A Little Pain, I was expecting her to do that one. We even got to sing along on this one, on the "no need to cry" line. I was also quite surprised at Blind Unicorn (though now I'm starting to doubt myself, and am wonder was it Devil's In Me?) it's not what I considered an encore song. But it was good to hear stuff from the Lost Lolli anyway! Though I would have also liked to see her do Fake Flowers and a couple of songs from Synchronicity. After the encore she asked if she could have a picture of us for a Japanese newspaper and everyone screamed lol. I tried to get as close as possible, though I was still at the back. But since I think I'll be the only ginger in the photo - I shouldn't be hard to spot lol!Overall it was a great concert, though perhaps the venue was the greatest, though it wasn't bad either! I met a couple of people and I got a t-shirt, photos and poster!

  2. Jonh Ingham says I love the titles of the songs - Celestial Delinquents - yeah! And Recorded Butterflies. I'd buy an album with titles like that just to see what a clever mind came up with. Good review. My daughter has just been listening to the same 6 Jpop songs for the last 2 hours while she did her homework - I'll have to widen her horizons to Olivia.

  3. milkshake says Thanks guys! Though I did totally bang my head when I was putting my luggage on the bus on the way home and had a headache the whole way home which was from 11:30am till 9pm lol. (Should have thought to have had some pills on me!) ^Yeah, that's what got me interested in Olivia - her song titles. Like Alone In Our Castle, Colour of Your Spoon & Internal Bleeding Strawberry. She also has some weird titles for her mini albums too like Comatose Bunny Butcher and - this one amuses me - The Return of the Chlorophyll Bunny!
