TAKE OFF YOUR SOCKS LEST THEY BE KNOCKED

10 Years of Hikaru Utada

Posted 11 months ago

This post was originally going to be more informative and less half-arsed but as I got confused when previewing it, I lost all the info I typed! (Duh - hit the cancel button not the back button!)

Hikaru Utada celebrates 10 years in the music industry as of December this year and is to release two books to mark it. (In the book entitled Ten she talks about her divorce - how I want to read that - and her music of course.) Sadly, it's unlikely these books will be available in English, so I'll have to hope some nice person tranlsates it!

I thought I could use her 10th anniversary as an excuse to post some of my favourite music videos and songs. Though I will try to avoid posting the ones I have done previously - with the exception of Passion perhaps.

Colours - first song I heard when I got my first CDs of hers (being the Deep River/Colours set). I guess it's a mid-tempo ballad:

Be My Last - nice ballad, I do rather like the piano. The video was shot in Prague - I think - so we have some pretty shots.

Keep Tryin' - One of my favourites. A mid-tempo, kinda of etheral, pop song. The video is very bright and colourful and my favourite bit is at the 2:30 mark where it seems to turn into a musical.

Passion - Didn't think she could top Sakura Drops, but she did! Definately a song I wish I could hear for the first time again. I am crap with descriptions so I won't bother, Couldn't do it justice anyway! Was very happy it had a totally amazing video!

Simple & Clean =Bit of nolstagia. There is no video for the song, so here's it on the ending credits of videogame Kingdom Hearts:

This isn't my musical cup of tea, for the most part--never been much into the popper side of things.  Having said that, I love your passion for a musician who obviously means a heck of a lot to you.  I will say that the video for Passion was very, very cool.

Played the game, loved the song, love Hikki!  Too bad neither of us read Japanese - the book would be very informative and I would love to hear about her time living in NYC.

All these years in the biz, and she still can project a childlike air. Remarkable.
