Despite not being a fan of them back in the day - was too young and wasn't into boybands - I actually really like Take That's new single Patience (their first after splitting up 10 yrs ago). It's such a gorgeous song and I didn't realise what a great voice Gary had before, although I think some of the other guys should get to sing. Anyway Patience is really great and I think it will become a classic - their Angels.I was reading about the Q Awards the other day and saw that Alex from The Arctic Monkeys were slagging them off saying "I'm too young to remember them, but even I know they're bollocks!" OK so the Arctic Monkeys have the fastest selling album of the year so far, but Take That could overtake them when they release their album. And what bugs me most is the snobby outlook Alex has, which is if it's pop it's bad. And that they've only been on the scene for the last year whereas Take That have been around for longer and are one of the most popular boybands in the UK. Saying that, I do find it quite fun when artists are always slagging each other off: Charlotte Chruch/Cheryl Tweedy/Amy Winehouse/Lily Allen/Kasabian. It's not really the fact that he's slagging Take That that annoys me, cause fair enough not everyone is a fan - even I'm not, don't own any of their CDs. I just hate that elitist attitude he has that his band's music is so much more cooler, since it's not pop - although maybe I'm being a little hyprocritical seeing as I can't stand US R&B/Hip Hop. (Cassie's Long Way To Go is alright though!) I'm sure I've got a few rants about that type music which would make me sound like an elitist. This talk of US R&B & Hip Hop leads me on to another random ramble about the UK urban scene - anyone else miss garage? I was watching MTV Dance the other night and they played a total classic - Artful Dodger feat Craig David - Rewind. "Craig David all over your *boink*" <- always cracks me up! "When the crowd say Bo Selecta!"

  1. Spencer Owen says Take That really did not take off in the U.S. ... and I have this weird feeling that Robbie Williams (and anything related) is probably better than the teen pop in the U.S. A tad unfounded perhaps.

  2. rei says My significant other remembers Take That - they were popular in Japan as well as All Saints and Shampoo. Not to change the subject, and I dunno how it is in the UK., but at the moment pop radio is being held prisoner by former N*Syncer Justin Timberlake's dreadful ??thing?? - "Sexyback". It truly is a terrible ??thing??. I can't even call it a song - I have to refer to it only as a ??thing??. One radio station I'm stuck listening to at work plays it at least once ??every hour of the day??...I hope that the UK doesn't experience this new evil... Umm...and exactly what's an Arctic Monkey?

  3. milkshake says Sexyback was played on Radio1 but I didn't hear it too much - it was probably A listed , which means it was played 20 times a week, so I only ever heard it once every other day I think (only listen to the radio in the mornings). Think hearing it once was enough though! Just checked and his new song is A Listed too, I find it really zzzz. Although I've got to admit it did sound quite good at the EMAs live - a lot better than Sexyback sounded!! I'm starting to think there's some sorta "Emporer's [sp?] New Clothes" thing going on with Justin as to me Sexyback sounded like total and utter crap, but because it's JT & Timbaland everyone thinks it's fantastic! Robbie Williams was totally slated for trying something different with his single Rudebox (which OK it's not amazing, but it's a fun song!) but no one's criticising Justin for Sexy Back?! Actually when I heard Robbie's new song - can't remember the name - I did think it was Justin's for a minute. Oops - poor Robbie! Oh yeah, and what really annoyed me was that Robbie moved his album's release date as it was the same date as Justin's. Hang on, Robbie's a UK ARTIST why did he move the UK RELEASE DATE because someone from another country is releasing their album then? I would have liked to see a bit of a chart battle. I just thought it was kinda pathetic that Robbie chose to move the release date. Anyway, yeah, I think Robbie Williams is quite good too - gotta love the comedy rapping! And he's got a few classics - No Regrets! This comment is turning into a post now lol.
