Have found another album I fancy buying, but I can't afford it!
Was trying to avoid a bit of studying the other day and was checking my e-mail. So desperate to avoid, I clicked on an e-mail I'd received from Def Jam (who I registered with because Hikaru released her english album with them and we'll hopefull see another one this year! Though looking at her release pattern I doubt it) The e-mail was about an artist called Kerli, an Estonian signed in the US. Though you can never really believe all the hyperbole these record companies litter their e-mails with, I was intrigued by the description of her music "electro-tinged goth pop".
I then checked out her first single, Walking On Air, which has a kind of creepy music box sound, with a slight R&B vibe to it. Timbaland's done a remix of this song which should help promotion - her album was released in the US last week. And one of my "boxes" for liking artists was ticked - the videos! Both the Love Is Dead(which features her ageing in reverse) and Walking On Air videos are quite eye catching. I did have a wee listen to the samples of the album - which is never a good way to decide on buying an album or not, why do I do it? After looking up Love Is Dead on Youtube, it slowly got stuck into my head. I really like her voice on this song - sounds kinda like Bjork.
So I might get her album next month. I think Amazon.co.uk have it on import, but I think it's up to 3 weeks to come (!!). Or I could order from Amazon.com, but last time I ordered a CD of there, I remember being quite surprised at the price I paid for shipping (I went for the highest as I wanted the album here ASAP) and the time it took to come (can't quite remember how long it took, but for the price I paid it felt long!) Or should I wait for a UK release? Should that ever happen. As I think, when I get the CD, it'll be one of those moments when I've really been looking forward to listening to a certain song, but then it's never as great as I expect it to be. Still a good song, but I'm not totally addicted to it.
Anyway here's two of her videos:
Love Is Dead
Walking On Air
