Buskers

Posted about 1 year ago
I don't usually pay much attention to buskers. I normally just walk straight past them, going off to buy the papers or something. Nothing usually catches my attention - though there is an Indian group which plays in the High Street of my city and gathers a bit of a crowd. But the other day I was waiting for a friend. And it was surprisingly sunny...really warm actually! So I was waiting in town on a quiet Sunday, feeling the heat and watching all the people pass by. If there's one thing I hate it's lateness and waiting for people! A busker came and set up and started playing guitar.I don't like to totally generalise when it comes to music but when it comes to acoustic stuff I'm usually not a huge fan. Nothing wrong with it - I just like to have a few more instruments in there! So I wasn't expecting to find myself to listen to this busker or for his music to catch my attention. He wasn't singing - just playing guitar. But the pretty tunes he played had a spanish feel to them and really captured the mood of the day. It was quite the opposite of what I expected him to play - the usual alright-ish cover of an Oasis song perhaps. I didn't find the songs he played boring at all and it made the wait for my friend all the more enjoyable. I even gave him money, the total of one pound I think! And I don't give buskers money. So whoever you were Mr Busker Man, was quite impressed with your playing! And no my friend - whose friendship I am now starting to doubt - didn't turn up!

  1. Sturgell says I used to busk with my flute at the subway station. It's sucha hard way to turn a buck. Even if people aren't that good, I think one should still kick them down a little. It enriches our lives to have people out playing music. cool post Shake!

  2. dansemcabre says wow as a young punk rocker all I needed to busk was a sign that said "need money for beer" that was usually good for twenty dollers in about half an hour. when we played guitar it was always cause we were waiting for somthing and just happened to have a guitar with us.

  3. Jonh Ingham says In the long tunnel between lines at Leicester Square it's always great to hear a busker who knows how to play. The sound of a sax in the tunnel is a sound of beauty. It's the guitarists trying to imitate Hendrix that get me - stop! you'll never be as good or even close.
