Britney Vs Take That
-
Artist:
Well, I am still a festival virgin another year. I was supposed to go to Rockness, but doubled booked myself when I went to see Britney Spears with my sister for her birthday.
Still, it means I can kill two birds with one stone in this post, as I saw Take That a week later (weekend just past) and both have tours themed around a circus.
So, again due to laziness, the two concerts summed up in simple bullet points:
* Saw Britney at the O2 - OMG I love the O2! Didn't know there was so much in there! OK, the prices ain't great - £6 for a Fanta and bottle of water. And what's with them not allowing you to keep the bottle caps? What if you're jumping around?
*Obviously Britney didn't sing live. I was unsure if she sang Everytime live or not as she did switch from her head mic.
*I was surprised that I quite enjoyed Britney's support Ciara, especially when she sang her segment of Missy Elliot's Lose Control.
*I thought the circular/transparent screen, showing clips of Britney etc was quite cool. But there were NO screens other than that. How are the people in the very back seats supposed to see anything other than some dot moving about? It wasn't a problem for me though as I was third row back from Britney - including the VIP ringside area. Luckily, as it was the concert was my sis' birthday present it meant I didn't have to pay for the £100 ticket or the £10.75 (!!!!) ticketmaster fee.
*All in all an enjoyable concert. It was fun watching the guys in front of me really getting into it. The miming didn't really bother me, though I don't agree with it. But I do wonder why she bothers with the mic?
*I think I actually enjoyed Take That's circus more, it was just more impressive - like the elephant! The circus elements were incorporated much better. I especially liked it when Take That were strutting down the cat walk followed by all manner of drummers, clowns etc. And Mark, Howard and Jason all came on unicycles at one point with Gary on a trike as he didn't learn to ride a unicycle.
*My only gripe with the TT concert was that the games opened at 4. They were on at....9! Are you kidding me? There were two supports and to me more support acts means less time waiting around for the main act not hanging around for 5 hrs! Still we had a decent spot and I saw for the first hour or so (my friend and I were standing). I actually survived pretty well considering I hadn't eaten since 1-2 and was standing for hours on end. My feet actually weren't too sore, whereas I was dying to get back to the hotel after Britney. As the concert ended much later than I thought my friend and I had to leg it to try and catch our train from Glasgow to Stirling, which we missed. (Gates opened at 4 and last train was 11:50). Wasn't easy with 55,000 exiting the stadium lol. But we ended up getting a taxi which cost £20 each which was still cheaper than accommodation! And the taxi from our hotel to the O2. I meant to ask for a taxi from our hotel - 10 mins in taxi from O2 - the Reuters Pier but said the O2 instead and it cost me £14. So the half hour ride from Glasgow to Stirling was a total bargain by comparison!
*Favourite performance? Never Forget! Rule the World was great too! The setlist was packed with great tunes - Shine, Greatest Day, Relight My Fire, Up All Night, Patience.
And here's a clip of the tour from when they were on Jonathan Ross. I hope they broadcast it on TV at some point. Quite camp in places, but a lot of fun!

You can enjoy all the trappings of festivals without leaving home:
1) water your backyard until it turns into mud. Sit down.
2) Put on headphones and blast the tunes
3) Set up a TV on the other side of the yard and tune it to some music channel (Good luck with THAT!), so you can barely see the musicians
4) Accumulate huge quantities of human waste and add to backyard mud. When you need to go the bathroom - hey! It's only a few steps away!
Yay, my post is still here. Mog told me it was lost yesterday! Now I can finish it off!
Lol, good point Dermahrk! My friends who went weren't actually that impressed and aren't thinking of going next year so maybe I didn't miss out.
I think perhaps the best way to enjoy a festival is at home with a glass of wine!
