WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

UK Christmas Number 1 2007 - We're All Going To Die

Posted over 2 years ago
It's getting to that time of year again where we're building up to the Xmas No 1, except this year we someone to contend with The X Factor. For the past few years the Xmas No 1 hasn't been the battle it once was - becoming all too predictable with The X Factor winner of that year going straight in a No 1, with no one else getting a look in. (The last major chart battle I remember was between Robbie Williams & Nicole Kidman and.....someone)I actually have nothing against The X Factor or Popstars/Pop Idols winners going in straight in a no 1. In fact, I do actually like some of them, such as Will Young & Girls Aloud (and OK I'll admit to liking Shayne Ward's No U Hang Up). For the last few years the No 1s have been taken by Steve Brookstein - remember him? -, Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis and further back Girls Aloud. (Did Will Young and Michelle McManus get Xmas No 1s too?) It's not them I'm objecting to - it's the songs. Even Girls Aloud's Sound of the Underground, which I like, wasn't Christmassy at all. So Sound of the Underground I'll let off but as for Against All Odds (NEVER liked that song!), It's My Goal (least they bothered to write Shayne a new song) and the god awful A Moment Like This and the possible 07 No 1, which is to be the Mariah & Whitney duet When You Believe (yuck!), I ain't happy with them. The worst offender in that list for me was A Moment Like This, nothing wrong with the way Leona sings it - it's the song itself. It's one of those cheesy, cringeworthy, soulless ballads I hate! I actually quite like Rhydian who is the fave to win the current series of The X Factor but if (like with Leona) Simon claims he is "worldclass" (which is the new word of the series BTW, up there with "journey") then actually write a new bloody song for him!! Or if not, surely there's something better? Just get him to cover a previous Christmas No 1 or something. Not give him that horrid Mariah & Whitney song and we all know it's gonna sell a bucketload and be played all the time. So, even though I don't actually listen to the charts anymore (I have heard bits of it recently though - Fearne & Reggie are making a good job of it on Radio 1.) I'm glad to see Malcolm Middleton is trying to make it a bit more exciting again. He's aiming for the top with his song We're All Going To Die, which despite the title is quite a happy tune. Several Radio 1 DJs are behind it, with Colin Murray getting the ball rolling, and even the bookies are taking bets on it. In previous years they haven't been taking any, because it would obviously go to The X Factor winner of that year. So here it is, the possible UK Christmas No 1 2007, Malcolm Middleton - We're All Going to Die. Enjoy:^Though there isn't actually a video for it yet.

  2. fistula spume says I love seeing what comes out of UK X-Mas music. It's such a huge deal there. There's some really great tracks that come out every year. It's like everyone works all year long on a musical holiday float that they're so proud of. I like the track you posted.
