Singing in your accent? Annoying?
-
Artist:
It seems recently that every new hip artist or band has to sing in their own accent. Although this does work sometimes, is it just me or does is it getting kind of grating? Arctic Monkeys - fine, works for them. Lilly Allen - unsure, kinda works but I'm also wondering if she's going to sing anytime soon. Sometimes I like the sound of her voice, other times I think it's a bit monotonous.Recently there's been a few songs where I've thought, "That's kinda catchy - but the accent could get on your nerves a bit." Examples:Kate Nash - Foundations:"Don't want to look at your face because it's making me sick"The way she sings - or speaks I should say - sick kinda ruins the flow of the song for me. And, of course:"You said I must eat so many lemons, cause I am so bitter. I said I'd rather be with your friends mate, cause they are much FITTAH"I'm still unsure where I stand on the "fittah" line - is it catchy or annoying? Though this song is the least annoying out of all the ones I'm going to mention - I actually bought it...in a shop and everything - but I much prefer her new song Mouthwash, which she sings the whole way through, though you can still hear her accent. The Pigeon Detectives - Take Her Back:Another one which I thought was kinda catchy when I first heard it, but now unlike Foundations, I just think it's blood annoying."'Ees not sure what 'ee should do. She's seventeen 'ees twenty-two"And lastly, Reverend and The Makers - He Said He Loved Me:" He said he laved me." "He didn't lave me" Those lines kinda grate on me.So, like it or hate it? Cool or annoying?
