According to record label EMI, Alejandro Escovedo will perform Tuesday night as part of the Democratic National Convention Committee’s program featuring Senator Hillary Clinton, the evening’s headline speaker.
Escovedo is scheduled to take the stage at 5:45 p.m. MST and perform People (We're Only Gonna Live So Long) from his recently-released album Real Animal. "These are unbalanced times, and great change is needed," Escovedo said in a press statement. "To be included in this celebration of the dignity and freedom of women and minorities is an honor."
Later in the week, Escovedo will play the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration in Milwaukee on Saturday; also on the bill is Bruce Springsteen. Escovedo’s West Coast tour starts Sept. 8 in San Diego. More info at www.alejandroescovedo.com

Get an early listen to Brian Wilson’s new album, That Lucky Old Sun, starting Friday on USATODAY.com and more than 50 other Gannett newspaper and TV sites. (Full disclosure: I’m a digital entertainment reporter for USA TODAY and got this press release from EMI earlier today.) Listeners can hear all 38 minutes of the album and can skip forward and back to individual streaming tracks on the Gannett sites. Links will be provided to Amazon.com to pre-order the CD, limited edition CD/DVD and digital download. (iTunes is currently taking pre-orders, too.) Wilson’s album arrives on CD and digitally Sept. 2 in the USA; Sept. 1 internationally. A 180-gram vinyl LP is out today. In my opinion, this is a great move for our paper. It will be interesting to see if similar deals follow and, if so, what type of artists are involved. The press release calls this "innovative promotion … the first of its kind for Gannett, which has never before partnered with an artist to offer an album premiere across its media Websites." A quote from Jim Lenahan, strategic development manager for Gannett’s U.S. Community Publishing division goes: "Streaming a full album is a first for Gannett, so we are thrilled to be working with Capitol Records and a musician of Brian Wilson’s stature to deliver music in a new way to our online audiences. This positions us well to expand our digital platforms while demonstrating the power of Gannett to deliver quality content across a network of websites." As for Wilson, his statement: "This music is really special to me and I hope that everyone will enjoy it!" Wilson plans to tour this fall. Information to come at www.brianwilson.com. Among the sites with Wilson streaming links: The Sioux Falls (S.D.) Argus Leader (a former post of mine) at argusleader.com and wusa9.com, the Washington, D.C. CBS affiliate.
I got a chance to talk to Ozzy Osbourne Wednesday for a story announcing that he and guitarist Zack Wylde would appear in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour video game due this fall.
With Ozzfest coming up on Saturday in Dallas, those who can't attend might be happy to hear that next year Ozzfest will hit many cities, according to Ozzy.

Excellent -- a case of the appetizer being better than the main course IMO.
To quote the great Philosopher, Homer J Simpson: {music}Stars, is there anything they don't know?
It all gives me the Bourbonitis Blues.
