WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Basic Things

A few years ago I heard a fantastic DJ set by Carl Craig that ended with this tune... threw me a couple of decades back and I had to get that album. With hindsight, Don't You Want Me, Love Action and all the rest aren't bad, but "The Things That Dreams are Made Of" has become one of those tunes that I turn to when things are too bad (or too good, for that matter).. I'm not even sure I haven't posted it before. I just like it so much!Oh, and btw, I got that mix from "Sonic Sunset here":http://www.sonicsunset.com/weblog.php . They have cool club mixes every week, often worth a download if you're into that kind of stuff like I am :-)

  1. Dale says Yup, that IS a solid track from Dare, which had a lot more going for it that the two big singles. I'm partial to "The Sound of The Crowd" myself. Here's a cover you might find intriguing, as it features one of my favorite female vocalists.

  2. mickimicki says Yeah, when I was old enough to be "current", they'd dropped the ball. While Heaven 17, for example, changed their style after their electronic debut but still made great music. (If not electronic... ) With hindsight and from my personal perspective, they both kinda left the field for several contenders, first and foremost, Depeche Mode, who were somewhat weaker (if I dare say - I still LOVED them) in their first efforts but "the rest is history" ;-)

  3. mickimicki says @ Dale: Hey early bird, I missed your comment b/c for some reason ivy's notification came earlier... the mysterious ways of mog-brain... man, this cover ain't so bad, and that means something coming from me (I'm a bit funny about female singers, some might even call me ignorant ;-). Brings out the song's anthem potential... imagining hearing this at a concert with thousands of people...

  4. ivylander says Odd to think of it now, but "Dare" really changed the landscape when it came out in the early Eighties. First danceable, electronics-heavy, white album to make a real impact. Human League could have ruled if their next one had been a little better....

  5. Rawkkiddoh says Ahh the human league, so many great songs. "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" is one that I cant help but dance to everytime I hear it. Love this song as well micki

  6. mickimicki says Great songs all right, Rawk, I like the band, too... but I vowed never to go anywhere _near_ their cover of "Rock Me Again & Again..." that "Dale mentioned last week":http://mog.com/mickimicki/blog_post/68389#comment-296893 ... It just _can't_ be any good... my open-mindedness ends exactly at the sheer idea of that hypothetical cover version...
