White Punks Watching TV

I'm proudly presenting one of my favourite cover versions ever. In fact, I didn't know it was a cover for years, until I got my coats pulled about The Tubes. This version of their ??White Punks on Dope?? is called ??TV-Glotzer?? (something like "TV Addict".)Proudly presenting, because the pair of pipes about to blow you away belongs to Berlin's own Mother of Punk, Nina Hagen. And by the way, the year is 1978...

    AA Coppertop says A real hip and pretty fellow art student, around ten years my senior, lent me her Nina Hagen records. She also turned me on to Marianne Faithfull. I blush to recall how flattered I was that she'd have bothered. I love the Tubes to pieces, by the way. I wait for their big rediscovery, so I can snap up all their CDs at The Nice Price.

    mickimicki says Cool you liked her... the whole album rocks a lot. I still play it _on the regs_... AA, that's really cool... and yeah, the Tubes are a bit forgotten, unfairly... a hip "new" band probably needs to cover them to bring them back to memory... or a film soundtrack include White Punks on Dope ;)

I've not heard much Nina, I lived a pretty sheltered life in Portland, OR when I was growing up(because the radio stations were so ass backwards & didn't play anything but top 40 music), so there's alot of music I'm still discovering that everyone else knew about long ago.

    mickimicki says Hi Augusts, I do love the original, too... btw Nina Hagen was boycotted by most German radio stations for years, back then, because in a radio inverview, she'd given masturbation instructions for girls... I don't know whether they took her off the air right then, but she was not on the radio for years. Seems funny today, with the whole world gawking at Britney's vajayjay. Good old times!
