German Lesson #1: Die Sterne, Posen

Posted over 2 years ago
Fistula Spume is making me a happy girl today, because he's showing a healthy interest in my favourite home-grown band, Die Sterne*. ("The Stars" in English... nothing to do with stern deaths...)So I'm going to start a mini-series introducing their numerous albums, starting here and today with their third album ??Posen?? ("Poses") from 1996.It was the first one they cut for Sony, and consequently, it's production is notably "glossier" than on the earlier ones. What I love about it is the way Die Sterne are quoting some cool classics while demonstrating their very own trashy-funk style. Check out the first song, ??Ich scheiß auf deutsche Texte?? ("I shit on German lyrics"). I should maybe call for a little "sample clearance" here... who knows what's cited?Next I chose ??Was had Dich bloss so ruiniert?? ("What on earth ruined you like that").
Yes, a certain house in New Orleans comes to mind...The last sample song is one of Die Sterne's cute instrumentals, ??Frank Orgel?? ("Frank Organ"). Gives a nice idea of where they're coming from.

  2. mickimicki says Haha.... OK, he's great, too. More from your generation, too ;-) Die Sterne happened to be around in '92 when I was still young enought to form those _very_ deep attachments to a certain band... travelling to see them more often etc.... (Sigh. These youngbloods!) Anyway... You know he used to be in a band?

  3. fistula spume says That first song is awesome. I love that lyric. They sound way cool. They play such a fun range of styles with their music. I like how eclectic it is. Ok that Jan Delay business was almost too hard to watch. Funny yet awful.

  18. Jonh Ingham says Cool band. I really liked the take on that NO House, and the first one's hints of early Floyd played my ears nicely too. Made me remember Rausch, a band I liked a lot in the early 90s.

  19. mickimicki says Cool! Rausch? Never heard of them! They're probably German with that name?

  20. Jonh Ingham says From Berlin. I'll pull a track off a CD and post for you. Big on the guitars, as you might guess with a name like that.
