Kaki King: ??Legs To Make Us Longer??

Posted over 5 years ago
For those of you who are acoustic-guitar-playing types and are feeling like you can only take the whole acoustic guitar thing so far, this album should give you something new and higher to aspire to. This woman does things -- you'd swear she's got seven hands and three guitars. And yet, it's not manic. Try it out. There's not much on this album in the way of singing, but it's no great loss, because as you'll discover on the one track she does sing on, her voice is nothing special (though it is pleasant in a boring sort of way). Being a vocalist, I'm not usually a big fan of whole discs of instrumental music, but this album blows me away every time. If I were planning on seriously taking up acoustic guitar as a skill, it's very likely Kaki King would be my major role model.

  2. Violet Grey says I was turned on to Kaki King through, of all thing, the video for "Playing with Pink Noise". I thought the versatility she displayed was just amazing and I couldn't wait to get the record. I ran out to my local Harmony House (now and FYE) and bought the only copy they had in the store out of the used CD bin! How lucky is that? And considering they haven't had a copy since, I feel lucky to get it when I did. I would have to say that "Ingots" is my favorite track off that record. It's got a beautiful melody and a driving beat, but there is a haunting quality that makes me think of warm spring nights. Not that I'm sentimental or anything like that.
