KT Tunstall: Eye To The Telescope

Posted over 5 years ago
This album was recommended to me by my good friend "misshapenhead":http://mog.com/misshapenhead, and I have to say, he hit my wish-for-summer-sounds target dead center -- of all the discs I've previewed this week, this is the one I keep coming back to again and again.I dare you to listen to any of these songs and not smile and bob your head, or tap your foot, or even leap out of your hammock and dance the dance of a crazy person. These songs are _infectious_. There's nothing particularly complicated or cerebral going on here, and that's a significant part of what makes these songs so clever. They're simple songs portrayed in an straightforward way, and that combined with KT's sassy and feisty voice makes for an undeniable summer record. Imagine Katrina and The Waves entering ??The Fly?? machine with Regina Spektor and Carina Round, and you've got KT Tunstall. Don't believe me? Well, don't take my word for it-- here are some tunes you should check out:bq. Stoppin' The Love (smile and bob head)Suddenly I See (crazy person dance) Another Place To Fall (tap foot)Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (super-duper mega crazy person dance, believe you me -- you gotta get the chicken-walk going with the head and the elbows and everything)There are even a couple of relaxing-by-the-pool downtempo numbers interspersed just to give yourself some time to recover from the chicken dance.Quick, go get this album now -- you'll be thankful that I alerted you long before the weather started turning cold again. These songs won't pack the same punch in the winter, I assure you. But right now they're perfect.

  3. pechspilz says I saw her live at the Blue Balls Festival (I shit you not - that's the name) in July 2005 in Lucerne, Switzerland, as a supporting act. Kate does this one-woman show with the help of an electronic sample machine thingie. We were all quite impressed by her performance. I bought her album the next day. Well... I returned soon after because it had some sort of stupid anti-rip protection on it.
