Snow Patrol Concert in Phoenix

Posted almost 5 years ago
I flew down to Phoenix July 13 to visit my best friend. My birthday was the 17 and on the 18th was the SP concert. Molly had never been and I was a little worried if she would like it. We got there about 45 minutes before the show started. First up was Hot Hot Heat. These guys were great. Full of energy and excitement. Only wish the sound would have been better. Have a feeling they haven't played many big venues. Nonetheless they were great and got us pumped for SP. The guys came out to Teenage Kicks. Great song to get things nice and cooked. They band opened right away with Hands Open and Phoenix "burst to life." The guys were in great form although suffering from the blistering heat (it was 115 that day). Gary made a comment about how he couldn't even fathom what that would be in Celsius. We were in the second row right in front of Gary. Could practically touch him. About halfway through the set I pulled out the present I had bought for Gary. I had been in Sedona a couple days before. I went into a shop and found a Sheriff's badge with his name on it. So I bought it thinking it would be funny to throw it on stage while they were playing. So in the middle of 'Headlights' I chucked it up there. I had written a little note on there. When it landed Gary was still playing and he was bending over to read it. When the song was finished he picked it up. He then asked who had thrown it up on stage. My friend and I were jumping up and down screaming. He proceeded to read it out loud for all to hear. He put the pin on his shirt and and wore it for the next several songs. The wrapped up the main set a little short. They came back for the encore with Finish Line, Open Your Eyes, and You’re All I Have. We rushed out of the theatre so we could go meet them at the busses. About half an hour later Gary, Paul, and Jonny came over to the group of fans that were waiting for autographs and pictures. Gary came over to me and my friend first and we got an incredible picture with him. All in all it was a great night, even if it was hotter that the surface of the sun. The guys will finish touring in September and then take a much needed break. Hope they aren’t gone too long.
