SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Good music vs. music I like

Posted over 2 years ago
I was thinking about making a list of my favorite cds from 2006 but I'm having a lot of difficulty because there are a lot of cds I've heard that I really hate, but I can tell they're excellent... I just hate the listening experience. Best example is the new Saves the Day album, which to me is like a horror film with its graphic lyrics and in my face 'tude. If I liked being sonically raped I'd listen to it all the time, but... I don't. I'm not really sure what to do, because I guess sometimes I do like getting ear raped because sometimes I like it, but most of the time I'm afraid of it.I might still make one of those lists, they're a fun exercise, but once you definitively decide for yourself that something is better than another thing it's hard to compare lists, or... listen to those two again. Here's what I have so far:(+44) - When Your Heart Stops BeatingThe Advantage - Elf-TitledAngels and Airwaves - We Don't Need To WhisperAntlerand - BranchesAppleseed Cast - PeregrineArctic Monkeys - WhateverAs Tall As Lions - As Tall As LionsThe Ascent of Everest - How Lonely Sits the CityAsobi Seksu - CitrusBrand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside MeCursive - Happy HollowEnvy - Insomniac DozeThe Format - Dog ProblemsFortDax - DiversGil Mantera's Party Dream - BloodsongsGirl Talk - Night RipperThe Glass Family - Sleep Inside This WheelGrizzly Bear - Yellow HouseHammock - Raising Your Voice.. 1. lemontwist says but I can tell they’re excellent… I just hate the listening experience I totally know what you mean. I feel the same way about a few bands. I think it has to do with your ears not being ready or used to hearing what you're hearing. You're being aurally challenged. I find that the bands that challenge you in this way, though, tend to be the best ones once you finally get them, though. Like the Velvet Underground and even Sonic Youth. I love the Arctic Monkeys album. Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Raconteurs, so many good releases this year. And to think that six months ago I thought all new music sucked!

  3. maxsayssticks says I think señor lemontwist saw my mog (music blog?) in the mogosphere and responded, you gotta make posts if you wanna have friends!! (I read an article about the viral nature of sites like this where they make it social so you'll tell your friends about it so more and more people will come and eventually the site owner is a millionaire from ad revenue. interesting, interesting)
