WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The Sunset Rubdown Effect

Posted over 3 years ago
At first I wasn't too keen to Sunset Rubdown, sure i loved Wolf Parade's latest release (Sunset Rubdown is Spencer Krug, keyboardist for Wolf Parade's other band), but i've been disappointed with Sunset Rubdown before. However a freind and band mate finaly decided it was time to prove me wrong, and he did just that by burning me a copy of the album and sitting in my room waiting for me to acctually listen to at least three of songs before he left. Upon first listen i must say I was conflicted, it was definetely good, certainly better than theirl last efforts, but was it really worht my time...the answer now is yes! for sure. I found someone wroethis about them and this is very much the way i feel and wish i could've written myself about the new album: "1st listen - Quirky 2nd listen - A haunting opera bound for darkness and madness 3rd listen - A Fantastical creepy carnival 4th listen - Marvelous". You should be warned, this album is really a grower, it won't grab you immediately like Wolf Parade does, but give it some time, slowly it will trickle down into your heart. So i guess in conclusion i'll give you all a few tracks to nibble on before you go and buy this album!Sunset Rubdown-"Shut Up I Am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings":http://www.ezarchive.com/tremorcontrol/AlbumSpace/3ZRXBYHE0/10-sunset_rubdown-shut_up_i_am_dreaming_of_places_where_lovers_have_wings-its.mp3Sunset Rubdown-"The Men Are Called Horsemen There":http://www.villageindian.com/sunsetrubdown_The_Men_are_Called.mp3Bonus: man do i just give and give or what? here's Sunset Rubdows Daytrotter Session (if you don't know what that is keep comming to my MOG, I'm getting a daytrotter post ready) Just a quick note , daytrotters mp3's are kinda wacky and they often pet them up, and then take them off their site only to put them back up again, so the links might not work amazingly.1. 2. CVanOeveren says Haha, to be honest, my reaction on this album went from "ooo" to "eh". I was really into it for a short period of time, but my interest in it burned out really quickly. Good album anyway, though.

  4. extraordinarypoems says I just listened to Winged/Wicked Things. I'll have to listen to it again before I really make much progress toward taking it in, but I'm compelled to do so. I also enjoyed reading about the band at Daytrotter, especially the following metaphors by Sean Moeller: "The first response to a Sunset Rubdown song has to be a powerful one. Take yourself, for instance, and now think of yourself as a sliding glass door, just Windexed up, clear as a contact lens. You’re just locked in, keeping the inside in and the outside out, providing the boundary between nature and the dining room table. Then BAM! A sparrow slams right into your windowy chest and falls limply to the concrete ground below. Spencer Krug’s songs make you feel like both the sparrow and the sliding glass door. You’re dumbfounded and dismayed because the music is like a raging bonfire that catches the bottoms of your pant legs ablaze and then hits you between the eyes with shovel. So you burn and you pay attention."

  7. inmostlight says I didn't really get into it until I listened to the album in my car during my commute. It's easier for me to really pay attention to the music that way, as compared to listening at home or at work. I'm looking forward to seeing them in September. Guess I need to pick up a ticket before they potentially sell out...
