MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

just got back from seattle this morning, where we spent a month recording at robert lang's. what a place! anyway, all that's left is a little bit of writing/rewriting, some vocals and extra stuff and mixing, but really it's almost done. lots of friends came by and played and sang. some hard rocking rock, some goodnight songs, some stuff in between.

now listening to le mystere des voix bulgares, vol. 2. have i already posted that i saw them when a friend of mine convinced me years ago to go scalp tickets with him, to see them at avery fisher. seemed crazy to me, as i hadn't heard of them, but my friend (tom shad, was joining dumptruck when i met him, this was the late eighties, later played with blue man group, once saw him record a song into his answering machine because he'd just moved in and hadn't unpacked his tape recorder, blew my young mind) managed to convince me, and it was AmAzing, fifty women in a semi-circle, vibrato-less pure voices, heart-stopping harmonies.

can't wait for the new stuff...i'm sure it'll all be great! The closest I've come to anything like that was Petra Haden and The Sellout Choir. There were like twenty women and Petra all singing Who songs in a semi-circle! It was amazing, eventualy repetetive and kind of annoying, but for a good 30 minutes it was bliss.

I, too, was in Seattle recently. I used to live there, and my roommate from there got married. It rained the entire time we were there, save for the last day. I also hit every flippin' record store in the city and looked for a copy of "Let Go" on vinyl. No surprise: I didn't find one. Did find a sweet Frankie Lymon LP on Roulette, though, and original Sonics records on Etiquette. Go figure.

in january i was volunteer to give some help in a classical festival, there were some choral groups, they all sang in a church, that was not that i prefered in classical but it's was amazing to listen to what they can do with their voices.

humhum if you almost done the new lp, that means that you'll be back very soon in europe... i'm ready to be again a part of the crew, when are the auditions ? ;) xo m.

I am pretty excited about Nada Surf's new album. I actually just recently bought "High/Low" after having had "Let Go" and "The Weight Is A Gift" for some time. Your music is awesome, thank you.

V.A.S.T's "Music For People" featured a Bulgarian choir, and the rendition was veryy interesting. I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Hey Matt

Long time ! I forgot we went looking for scalped tickets. Remember trying to play me the PIxies and i was non plussed because it "sounded shrill" ? many years later i started listening to the lyrics and was blown away .. but you put that seed in my mind all those years ago. Also I rmember going to see Nada Surf play at Knit and stumbling upopn Trans Am that night.
